Sim textures for ClothSkin

Textures Sim textures for ClothSkin

Download [11.42 MB]
Sim textures for the amazing ClothSkin plugin. Preset included.
Optional scene available, used for screens below.

New "SoftAbs" preset, shown below. Consider the old "TRSDpreset" obsolete.

How to use the preset

This will load the textures automatically, and my settings.
  1. Add the ClothSkin plugin to the person.
  2. Open the ClothSkin plugin page.
  3. Click "Load preset".
  4. TRSD.ClothSkinSimTextures should appear in the list on the left. Click it
  5. Select SoftAbsv2

How to apply the textures manually

Due to a bug or oversight, the plugin doesn't correctly list addonpackages with textures for ClothSkin.
  1. Add the ClothSkin plugin to the person.
  2. Click load texture for one of the slots.
  3. Navigate to your AddonPackages folder.
  4. Find "TRSD.ClothSkinSimTextures.6.var and open it.
  5. Keep going down the folder structure. The textures are in Saves/ClothSkin/Textures/TRSD/..
  6. Select the appropriate texture for the chosen slot.

Bone areas won't deform much at all (ribs, pelvis, collarbones). Glutes, abdomen, cheeks etc. will.

Note the mesh guide is not part of the sim texture package. It is simply for easier visual demonstration of the physics on this page.

Optional scene available to see how these captures were setup in VAM.

ClothSkin knowledge base

Some guidance on how to adjust the settings to your needs

  • Solver iterations
    • How many times the physics are computed or something to that effect.
    • Setting it low (1-2) causes the physics to slow, giving it more drag. You can use this to create semi-realistic jiggle on fast movements. 3 is the default for VAM sim clothing.
  • Stiffness
    • Keep it at 0 or you'll get visible seams where the regions connect.
  • Distance Scale
    • Increase or decrease the surface area of the skin. As long as stiffness is set to 0, this won't have any effect.
  • Compression resistance
    • Best left at 0 also. Another option affected by stiffness. If set high with stiffness, it'll push the skin out creating wrinkles where ever the skin is being compressed.
  • Skin Joint Strength
    • Can be seen as the general strength of the cloth effect.
    • The higher the more tightly it wraps to the model. When you go low with it, the skin will start to alter the original look of the person. Parts may droop. Definition may be lost. They become a rubber husk. And if you set it to 0 the skin will slough off 🫣
  • Gravity, weight, drag
    • Self explanatory. Drag and weight can be good for tuning jiggling on movement.
  • Collision Radius
    • Increases the area that's affected by a single collider. Best kept in the 0.01-0.16 range for touch collisions.
  • Collision Power
    • The strength of collisions. Very useful in decreasing harsh deforms.
  • Friction
    • Self explanatory. How much the skin grips, and by extension how much it pulls the surrounding area.
  • Static Multiplier
    • This one I'm unsure about. Let me know if you have info on what exactly it's meant for.

  • Uniform Sim Strength
    • This is only applicable if no texture is loaded.
    • It changes the relative Skin Joint Strength for the whole region.
    • You can try changing the eyes sim strength :sneaky:

Quirks

  • No sim is going on: Reload the textures, or the plugin.
    • If you change skin on the person. This may be necessary.
    • Sometimes when I load a scene with it enabled, I would also have to do it.
    • To ensure this didn't happen in the demo scene, I reloaded the plugin before saving, so that it would clear all loaded textures. And upon scene reload I had it auto play the scene animation with a trigger loading the ClothSkin preset (which would then load the textures again).
  • The person is invisible.
    • SmoothPasses can't be set to 0 in VAM settings. Minimum of 1 is required. Or you get a little black hole orb of skin and hairs near the person root..
  • Rarely, something would happen make most of the skin and hair disappear, leaving only rigid areas.
    • It's hard to pin point exactly what happens, but it seems to be a sim (cloth) collision happening so fast it's effectively knocking all the skin off.
    • Sometimes resetting sim would fix it. Other times going back to a previous scene save was necessary.

That's the amazing part of ClothSkin, the latest versions run on your GPU. Very minimal performance impact.
Cheers

That looks really interesting! Thanks for sharing. So how does it work? Do you apply it like a regular texture, or is there a different access path?

You need to apply the ClothSkin plugin on a person. The preset or textures then has to be loaded within the plugin. Perhaps I'll add ClothSkin as a dependency for the package.
I've included an optional demoish scene where it is a dependency, and everything has already been applied to the person.

Thanks for the review!
