Reviewing the review system

Today I tried my first review after the remodel, and here is some feedback:
  • Clicked the Like, which opens the "Leave a review (optional)", wrote below and clicked submit review:
    1. Nothing happened instantly or after a few seconds
    2. I notice the animation on the top right that I recognize, but it's very easy to not see this and it takes several seconds to finish
    3. When it finish there's a notice on top that the review was added, but nothing happens on the page. Where's my review?
    4. If I don't reload the page, and click again the "Like", it unlikes and there's no review text anymore, but I also don't see my review where I would expect
    5. If I reload the page then I see my review
    6. If I got confused on point 4 and submitted another review text, then when reloading the page I have 2 reviews but I only see 1 review
  • After reviewing and reloading the page:
    • If I click "Like", which takes my previously clicked "Like", my review is gone from the Reviews subpage
    • If I clicking again "Like" to hope to bring back my previously removed review, but not add any text, my old review does not come back, it's effectively removed
  • Other notes:
    • It was not clear to me how I could leave a like without a review, which is by clicking the X button, but since the action of pressing the Like/Dislike button opens the panel, it is unclear for the user if clicking the X means that the Like/Dislike is also cancelled
    • When the Like or Dislike is pressed, it shows only the single button in white and removes the other option, and that makes unclear if the person pressed it before or not as there's no point of comparison, one has to memorize that white means chosen
    • If the above confusion leads to a removal of the review, that's not good
    • Just clicking "Like/Dislike" with no review feels the same as clicking an emoji. This probaly has a impact somewhere on lists, but for a user there's no noticeable difference between a "Like" and a emoji.
The resource where I mistakenly submitted 2 reviews but only one shows is this one:

Thanks for your hard work on this

The Druuna scene has no gallery, but has large inline images on the overview page:
The Busty Goth scene has a gallery, but no inline images, only attachments:
This is how I'd like it to look:

I know I did something wrong posting them, but I'd like to know the proper method for getting a gallery on the resources page and the large inline images on the resource overview.

Edit your resource.

Everyone can already use Gifs for their avatar. We just didn't announce it because there was some concern about overloading the server if everyone tried uploading gifs at once. I'm surprised no one commented on my own avatar?
Mine is never animated. It just stays there looking like a bloody jpeg... I think the only animated gifs I've seen are Podflower's sometime ago and yours🤔

Thank you for this feedback. This will help us make some improvements.

To clear up some of the confusion -- Clicking the "Like" button again after already having submitted a review is essentially the same as permanently deleting your review and removing your "Like". It's a "start over" action.

Several people have mentioned their dissatisfaction with the different types of metrics (favorites, likes, reactions) and the confusion this poses. While I agree, and would love to have one metric, I'm not sure how that can be done without angering some while making others happy.

How will it feel for resource owners who have a lot of favorites but very few reactions? Or those who have tons of reactions but no reviews? There is also no way to objectively quantify a combined metric into one single number, as there's no way to assign a percentage of "importance value" to likes, reactions, or favorites. They are simply different.

If anything, I personally would prefer to remove reactions as a metric and simply leave it as something cute that you can do to leave a smile for the creator of the resources to say "thanks". The problem with this is that the likes and favorites are too new, and many older resources rely on their reaction counts in order to gain visibility. I don't think any major changes could be made for some time until those other systems gain traction.

The only conceivable way I could see this working is if the community as a whole agreed to allow reactions to be turned into "likes" as a one-time conversion, and then we remove reaction scores entirely. If you think that's a possibility, we could run a poll for a month or so and see.

Sometimes less is more, and that's not a joke dear Miss/Mrs AshAuryn :)

With infinite scrolling on when viewing your own resources, other creator works show up at the end of yours. Is that meant to be?
GIF 4-5-2025 4-54-39 PM.gif

Also surely some of my models are missing from this view🤔

EDIT Ok I had to turn off infinite scrolling off, jump to the other page with the missing models and then they showed up when I turned infinite scrolling on and the other creator's stuff didn't show up.

I've been trying folks, but I HATE this new version of the Hub. I try to support creators with reviews and every time I go to give a review, I can't easily figure out how to do it so I usually give up. I figured it out once, but the fact that you'd move away from a simple review button seems strange and incredibly counterintuitive to how we've been trained to review content on every platform ever.

I also hate the new positive/negative split of reviews because it's only a way to hide reality. The 5 star scale, while flawed and likely not appreciated by the few creators who get less than 5 stars, is vastly superior for gauging whether it's worth making space on my computer for a VAM look or scene than this new system, which is obviously keyed to help Patreon creators mostly squeeze more money without people knowing what they're getting.

I love the feel of this site as it's old school and pleasing to the eye. I get that you're trying to throw on a fresh coat of paint as VAM 2 launches, but these changes are degrading the Hub, which only just became a central easily usable repository for engaging with content a couple years ago. Also, some of us like to be able to land on the page without everyone knowing we're in the smut hut and there used to be a version that had nothing in the topline so we could easily choose to do so, but now the landing page has some weird blonde staring at me. I hate to complain because I love 90% of the upgrades you guys have made to this site over the last year or so, but this latest one probably means it'll be a lot harder to give creators love.

This is a known bug. We are working on a fix.

Actually, the changes were for the most part requests from the community that have been made continuously over the past few years. We keep a log of all community requests, and the vast majority wanted many of these changes. They were not made without consideration.

I am sorry to hear you dislike (no pun intended) the new likes system. It follows the industry standard of global media companies, game companies, and content creation hubs. While users who have been visiting the Hub for some time might need a period of adjustment, generally all users will be used to the single-click like/dislike from the other platforms they frequent such as Instagram, X, Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, Steam, Civitai, to name a few. As this is the industry standard and recognized globally, as well as being the most recognizable standard for younger generations of gamers, and was repeatedly requested by the VaM community, we won't be returning to a "star" system.

If you have feedback on how the current system could be made more user-friendly, please feel free to share that feedback. You might review @atani 's post here, as it already covered some issues that could be improved: https://hub.virtamate.com/threads/new-hub-changes-mega-thread.64791/post-195496

it'll take some getting used to but it's getting there. only gripe so far is the resources page and having no way to change category to plugins for example. mainly browsing on my phone as the screen width is reduced the buttons for "Add resource / Categories / Filters" are hidden. neither is it a mobile only issue, resizing a browser on pc will do it too. tried brave and firefox.

another issue is the main menu and sub menus on pc when browser is resized the text vanishes leaving only icons. more of a pain in the arse on the sub menus without a title attribute.

virtforumscreen1.png

also please don't take this the wrong way but the landing page should be took out back and shot :p

it really is aweful sorry. maybe your out-of-the-norm screen setup has something to do with it. for starters its waaaaaay too long. needs to be condensed and showcase virtamate software, how do i get it, news from the devs, here's our awesome community hub. The newest resources thing confused me for a while too. I thought it was broken and showing older content.

before these changes, I never really understood the whole goto virtamate.com > redirects to the hub.virtamate.com. like where is your home page. not to criticize of course, just felt odd to me.

keep up the good work

here's the offending code in your css

Code:
    .block-resource-list .filterBar-pagenav:not(.body-xfrm_watched_resources .block-resource-list .filterBar-pagenav) {
        display: none !important;
    }

This was due to a last-minute request to move the category button to the left side of the screen. It got placed in a container that normally holds the pagination buttons, which are disabled on mobile. I'm going to re-work the category menu entirely, so this should resolve itself soon.

Ironically, other complaints I've received about the landing page say the exact opposite. They want no marketing information and all resources, more of them, and smaller. Basically they want the old hub landing page. The new landing page must serve a dual purpose of being both a showcase and also a useful page for long-time members to visit.

I comment jokingly about my screens, but of course we test the hub on multiple screen sizes both desktop and mobile.
I'm not sure why length should be an issue. Pretty much all popular media sites have infinite scroll as their default landing page.
https://civitai.com/
https://www.netflix.com/
https://store.steampowered.com/
https://www.nexusmods.com/

I wouldn't call that last one "modern" but it falls into line with the basic idea of a landing page. I think what we could do is spent a little more time condensing the information so that it's not so large.

I use one of the guides as my "landing page" so these issues aren't important to me.

This is now fixed.

I will leave my impressions as a casual user. This means that there is no way for me that I will look through all the content, but at the same time, I want to quickly find what's new and cool.
The new UI makes it harder to do that because:

  • There is no visible rating on the resource/search page anymore.
  • There is no summary or stat for reviews anymore.
  • There is no reaction stat on the resource/search page anymore.
  • I have to squint my eyes to see the numbers (total downloads) that could be helpful.
  • There used to be a way to peek for screenshots on the search page. Now we absolutely have to click on the resource. Found it, but it took time to find.
  • Navigating from one category to another is more clicks and scrolling than before. Also, we have to scroll back up to click on it.
  • The paid section is hard to find. Clicking on resources goes to /free by default and clicking on category doesn't show it on the screen; it requires scrolling inside the menu.
I like the new design, it certainly looks cool, but the UX is worse, and navigation is more steps than before, and only seems to makes sense for users browsing the hub every day. For a casual user like me, it forces me to spend more time to find the new and cool of the month.

"Paid" filter doesn't show anything. Keep the creator name in Stacked view the same way as in Grid view.

There are no ratings. There are only likes. Stars have been removed/converted.

  • There is no summary or stat for reviews anymore.

Not sure what you mean. A "like" is a review/endorsement. All previous stars and reviews have also been converted to "Likes" as explained in the original post here.

  • There is no reaction stat on the resource/search page anymore.

On the resource list /category list there is a reaction stat. In some screen widths it is visible by an emoji. In others, it is visible by a number. Some condensed view options like the grid view it is removed for that particular view type.

  • I have to squint my eyes to see the numbers (total downloads) that could be helpful.

For this I would recommend using the zoom on your browser.

  • Navigating from one category to another is more clicks and scrolling than before. Also, we have to scroll back up to click on it.
  • The paid section is hard to find. Clicking on resources goes to /free by default and clicking on category doesn't show it on the screen; it requires scrolling inside the menu.

These two are currently being worked on.

On a 1080p screen at 100% zoom, the emojis do not appear, but there is plently of space, see screen below.

For this I would recommend using the zoom on your browser.
I don't think this is a good solution, considering that I cannot think of another website where the font is that small. Using the zoom to see the text at a size that I consider comfortable, there is only 2 items available on a full screen view. See the screenshot below to see what I see, at 100% zoom in chrome on a 1080p screen.

Yes. I have a button I can click that will make it so you won't see any of it. Let me know if you'd like that.
Damn, I'm glad I don't have to rely on being a forum moderator for my ego. At this rate the way the website functions even if you banned me I wouldn't be losing out on anything as I can't use it as is. Frankly the fact that you can't be told that the form over non-function you've implemented without threatening retaliation makes me not give a shit what outcome I get from my post.

Your original comment:

Looks nice, aesthetically. Is there a setting somewhere to turn it all off so it's more usable?

Was not constructive, dripped with sarcasm and was intended to be rude. As a human being, not just a moderator, I am entitled to respond with some snark.

Alternatively, I could have deleted the comment for not meeting our standards, especially in an official thread. Please adjust your attitude in our forums. We do have temporary mute, etc, to give you time to adjust to the level of courtesy we expect on our site. If this level of courtesy is not your cup of tea, you are welcome to participate in discussions elsewhere -- just not on the Hub.

Just saw this.

If you uploaded yours before we switched over to the new image processor, then it will appear as static. Try deleting your current avatar and reuploading.
