Official New Hub Changes Mega Thread

Thanks for taking the time to explain all of it.

I noticed that my Style was set to "Dark (Bikini Girl)" and it was causing only one item per row in the stacked view.
If I use default style instead, it changes to "VamHub (Widescreen)" as I have a 1440p monitor. This is now showing two items per row.

I would still like to see some configuration where the Filters or Categories have their own collapsible container on the side of the screen, and bringing them up either rearranges or resizes the search results. (Google images as rearrange example, when you click on an image it brings up the side panel that takes up about 30% of the screen but the search results get rearranged fewer items per row over more rows;

First of all, congratulations on the new layout, I know you've spent a lot of resources on it. All in all, it's excellent:). But I agree with Chonzales, especially about the way categories are hidden away, it should be changed. And all the image material seems enormously large even on a 4k screen, should be scaled down 20-25% in my eyes. And as with everything new, you have to get used to it.

My workstation is one 5120x1440 ultrawide monitor, and two vertical 2560x1440 monitors. It looks like a Tie Fighter. Everything looks awesome to me.. personal preference I guess. Here are some examples:

The main thumbnails.
If you don't post a screenshot then I can't help you. Everything has thumbnails on the website.

The landing page has thumbnails.

The resources page list view has thumbnails. The thumbnails have thumbnails. The image gallery in the list view has thumbnails. The featured resources carousel has thumbnails. The media gallery has thumbnails. The resource sidebar has thumbnails. The resource and member profile headers have thumbnails. The resource grid view has thumbnails. My typing fingers are getting tired.

Going to add a new style choice that has a static category menu.

I did experiment with "opening the menu pushes the content to the side". However, in practice this was extremely browser intensive and just could not work. Each resource item has a massive wall of html and css associated with it. Making calculations to resize that many flex items all at once drastically lagged the browser and had to be abandoned. Next I tried just pushing the entire body of the page to the side, but what's the point? At that point the user can't interact with the page content anyway. So in the end it was either take up valuable real-estate, or hide the menu.

I'll create a style template where some of the real-estate is removed and the menu is static.

Believe it or not, I appreciate this response. Thanks for being cool after us dicking around.

Hopefully the post I just made about why things are as they are will help explain why your example won't work, unfortunately. Simply putting a longer title in the example breaks that version of the template.

I'm not trying to be snarky here, but I am curious. I know this won't appease anyone who's determined to be unhappy, but I would like to point out that on "new" hub, no matter what anyone thinks of the size ratios or layout of each resource item, you are still seeing two or more items on one row on most screen sizes, whereas on old hub you would only have been able to view one? So, I get it but I don't get it -- the complaints that is.

Actually if you want pm an abusive message to vent I'm cool with it :) . I have to remember you are an official employee who has to moderate their behavior vs me a random smuck who can at worse get banned. I do apologize for the harshness/divisiveness even if it aint my cup o tea

*and if some of it is my browser fucking up what is supposed to be then I need to actually see the expected to have a real opinion

Did you miss my other post? It looks like a change just went in and I like it much better now. No complaints here!

I Just want to use gifs for my avatar and banner.
First rule of drinking: 3/4ths of the drink must go in the mouth, or it doesn't count...

Something's been puzzling me about the gallery view. Some of my resources show a gallery view and some don't. On some of my resource pages, there are images only as attachments, not inline. I'd like to have a gallery view and full images in the overview page for each one. How do I do that? I must have missed a step.

Thanks @AshAuryn for the great work on the redesign🥳🎉. It looks clean and modern. When I came back to the hub after a few weeks, I thought woah.. did VAM2 launch? And it did :D (in beta)

As a long time VAM Hub enjoyer, I'll throw in my 2 cents here from a usability perspective. Just personal thoughts or bug finds, which I feel would make user experience even better.
  1. Trending Resources:
I can't find it or any replacement . I liked that page to quickly find great new-ish resources after being away for a few weeks.

  2. View Categories menu anywhere:
I saw the categories menu on the Action Bar on main resources page, but can't see it anywhere else, like when looking at a particular resource. I feel having categories persistent under Resources in the hamburger menu in top left, or the navigation menu would help for quick browsing.

  3. Ratings to likes:
I like (y) the change to simplify this. I see reactions as one level of user feedback and reviews are another level of stronger feedback, and both are valuable for creators. I used reactions and ratings (now also favorites) to quickly find great resources when browsing. I feel the current design only has reactions visible, but ratings (or Likes) are sort of "hidden" among several resource metrics. Previously, both ratings and reactions had visually prominent icons. If you do display both together, there could be some clash between name and icon for Likes (ratings) vs Likes (Reaction).

  4. Small bug?
The floating box that open when clicking an author's name, it doesn't have Media linked there.

  5. Some UI scaling bugs:
On a 4K screen with 100% zoom, Chromium-based browser, I see some UI issues. Attached an image below. Top: The resource thumbnails are quarter of the size vs expected full size image. Bottom: The resource box doesn't have the reactions or resource description visible. I can see the same issue in SlimerJSpud's screenshot above.
These issues go away if I zoom in or out to other scales. Could be linked to specific dpi/scaling?
Thanks again for your hard work! Looking forward to more great updates for the hub!

The "problem" is that your setup is not used by that many people in general. Widescreen is just not user friendly for text. For me it is only usable for games and cinema, but as you say it is a matter of taste.

I know. it was a joke sir.

We test using multiple screen sizes and resolutions. The Hub is fully mobile responsive on several device sizes as well. The only issue here was not realizing the number of users who would still be using 1920x1080, so we didn't focus on that size as much as far as density of information on screen. This has been remedied.

No, I didn't miss it. But I still have no idea what you were talking about because you never offered a screenshot. Glad the changes helped?

Everyone can already use Gifs for their avatar. We just didn't announce it because there was some concern about overloading the server if everyone tried uploading gifs at once. I'm surprised no one commented on my own avatar?

All of these are good suggestions. # 1, 2, 4 we will fix. #3 Likes should be visible along with views and downloads in the resource meta information.
#5 - is this the in-game browser? It's possibly due to the fact that Chromium is outdated and there's not much I can do. Any chance you could give me the specific browser and version so I can try?

Looks like on the forums the gif only plays when you hover over the avatar, so think most of us didn't even notice.

Yes, the gifs will only auto-hover on the member card or the member profile.

This was a compromise. If we had animated gifs all over the site constantly it would get overwhelming and we'd get a lot of complaints, so it's limited to hover in most cases. Just a small perk.

Hey, sorry for bugging you here too @AshAuryn

I'd also vouch for better visibility of Likes/Ratings. This is an essential metric, which gives info about the quality.
Currently it is very small and kind of drowns inside other stats.

Also from user perspective (especially new user) it is a bit confusing to evaluate, how good something is.
Right now there are at least 3 stats which tell something about that. Likes, Reactions (which also include thumb up likes inside them) and Favorites.
My suggestion, similar as I mentioned in discord, would be to make a combined score of Likes+Reactions or Likes+Reactions+Favs,
and highlight the overall endorsement count somewhere like this:

(But with better design of course xD)

Please take this into consideration and have a nice weekend!

Could you post a link to ones that aren't working? I'd like to take a look.
The Druuna scene has no gallery, but has large inline images on the overview page:
The Busty Goth scene has a gallery, but no inline images, only attachments:
This is how I'd like it to look:

I know I did something wrong posting them, but I'd like to know the proper method for getting a gallery on the resources page and the large inline images on the resource overview.
