How to use Passthrough in VAM (VR/AR)

Guides How to use Passthrough in VAM (VR/AR)

This is extremely cool. I almost got it working.

Can anyone else confirm the latest version (v0.13.0+nightly.2023.09.07) working on a Quest 2? I got everything set up. Even seen the effect working in VAM. But controller inputs aren't being forwarded to SteamVR/VAM, no inputs are being registered in SteamVR's controller debug. They track properly.

EDIT: This works. EDIT: But not for VAM. Fixed SteamVR's inputs though.
Yeah I'm at a loss. Today I've tested ALXR and found no issues with other games. Controllers tracking and responding like I'm used to in all of them. But for some reason VAM doesn't want to. I've made a clean VAM install.

What's also strange is that when I use ALXR and open "VAM (OpenVR).exe", it crashes. If I open VAM.exe it launches properly into VR. But no hands/laser pointers show up like they do when I use VirtualDesktop for streaming VR.

EDIT: Got it! My clean install was unclean. If anyone else has ever experimented with the FSR guide, that will break this. Forgot I even had that since I never ended up using it. You need to remove the DLLs you've added.

I have just followed your guide, and downloaded the new ALVR for green screen, it works ,but my controllers lose tracking and I cannot select anything, is there another settingI need to alter. TIA :)
I have tried all your updates, and Alvr will not work, my controllers will not respond, I have reverted back to version 18 and its working ok, I have kept your update of Axlr , on my headset and it seems fine when I press System B, but no change when I press sytem A, but I can live with that. :)

Huh interesting! Who would have thought FSR + VAM + ALVR would cause issues! Will put a note on this

I'm a bit lost with getting ALXR working through a wire on my Quest 2. I tried following the wired guide for ALVR, just with ALXR instead but I can't get the signal through no matter what I do. Not sure if it's possible to do this wired but it feels like it should be.

Nvm got it working after taking another thorough look at the instructions. Only problem now is that the image in my headset tends to freeze if nothing in the picture seems to be moving. Probably some weird video/connection setting in the server menu

Any suggestions for getting the beta version of Virtual Desktop working? I downloaded the files but not 100% sure how to launch into beta (I do have the full version, of course). I looked around the Discord and there was a lot of talking about the beta but didn't actually see a "install beta for dummy's" link. lol. Got one of those for this dummy?

Gotchu, it's on the Announcements page of the Discord. It writes:
This is a Beta release for testing purposes only. To install this beta, go to the Virtual Desktop Quest store page (https://www.meta.com/experiences/2017050365004772/), scroll down to the version number, click it and select the BETA channel. For Pico and HTC, you can sideload the Beta apk available here: https://github.com/guygodin/VirtualDesktop/releases/tag/v1.29.0

Let me know what headset you're using and I can possibly help

Thanks for that info. I am using a Pico4 and actually did find that link and downloaded those files, but I did not find the announcement page so I wasn't up to speed on sideloading the apk. That gives me something to work with. I presume I can use Sidequest for that? Or can I just drop it into my headset?

Thanks again!

i figured it out! do NOT use godlike, it only works with streaming set to high. i should have read instructions better sorry! PS its so good!

Hey Thinoreos,

Can you please link the scene for the demo on quest 2 video in your guide? Shit is hot and I wanna try it

I managed to get it mostly working in virtual desktop but I'm confused. When I enable the camera bkacground plugin it only changes the top half of the scene to the colour leaving the bottom all black and passthrough not functioning.

That's the scene having some weird atoms, it's not the passthrough issue. Some scenes have these weird atoms, you have to remove them. Try other scenes to see what I mean

I did try another scene and it worked. The scene I initially tried with was entirely black so I was confused.

I must be overlooking something when trying to get this working with virtual desktop, and that is how to run the VR version of VAM whilst virtual desktop is running on the headset. vam vr only works for me once quest link is connected (airlink or cable) but whilst in this mode Virtua desktop is not launchable or accessible.....what am I doing wrong?

What do you mean by not launchable or accessible? In the main Vam folder there should be a VaM (OpenVR).bat, just double click that
