Hey everyone! Currently I am debating whether I should just upgrade my existing AM4 setup or upgrade to a brand new AM5 setup. The goal is to play in VR mode.

Now my question is: Does AM5 and the 5080 bring any big advantage over AM4 and 5070ti, or is it not worth the upgrade because it maybe only gives +5% of performance?

To people on AM4 + 5070ti: How well are scenes running, can you play it in 60+ FPS with settings maxed out?

I'm on AM4 + 5070 ti.

My guess: the update probably won't give an improvement worth the cost, in VAM at least. You don't even know if the GPU is your bottleneck in scenes, more likely will be the CPU.

Depends on the scene of course. 1, 2, 3 persons, very different results. Are they moving a lot? Look, clothes, hairs will have all kinds of impact. Generaly speaking of scenes means nothing. If you want benchmarks, see the Benchmarks thread

I would perhaps get the Ryzen 5800X3D. Which one do you have? How often do you run into scenes where you are running into less than 60FPS?

I have a ryzen 9 3900X from some years ago.
I always have less than 50 FPS in scenes on 2 person atoms with plenty of movement, soft body physics, etc, when in VR with my Pico 4 ultra. This is fine, I would expect most people with these conditions is in this range of 25-40 FPS.
A rough expectation of performance in VR is to see half the FPS compared to the same use in desktop mode.

Together with which GPU?

Before a 3070 ti, now a 5070 ti.

Hmm, that's sad to hear. Although the CPU I'd buy is more powerful, maybe it's your CPU that's bottlenecking the FPS.

Yes, the CPU has always been my primary bottleneck, and for most people too regarding VAM, but to me it's enough for what I get. Buying a new one would also mean new motherboard, possibly RAM too, and prices are ridiculous.
I upgraded my GPU not so much for VAM but because of the expected price rise (at the time), found a good deal, and for AI stuff experimentation,
