Hi everyone
I'm new to Virt a Mate and... What a Blast !

Though, i'm here because i have some difficulties grasping some details about presets and looks.
I've watch some tutorials and didn't found my answer... besides, english is not my natural language so, i might lack some subtilities, so i figure i would directly ask.

So... I found how to change a preset for a character in a scene.
Edit mode, click on the character, if i didn't get the root, click on "select root", go to the "Appearence presets" tab, and "select existing"... then go in "All Flattened" and it's ok.
But, i download some looks i really enjoyed.
Most of them can be seen in the "All Flattened" window.
But some of them don't, and i can't find them... i only have a "display scene"...

So i though : why no create my own presets by saving them.

So i load the scene, and then go in the "Control and Physics 1" pannel... Then i saved the looks ... and even save the presets (though i don't know what is the most interesting).
Then... i still can't find them in the All Flattened window of the "Appearence Preset" menue.
But i can "Load" a preset or a look from the Contol and Physics 1 ...
BUT ... those looks and/or presets are merged with the model already on display... hair inside hear, skins overlapping skin ... And... i can't get rid of some parts.
I guess it's linked to the way i load the presets... but... i don't know how to create a file such as the other one i dowlnoad (they are in .var; whereas the one i save are in .json)

If some body can explain the differencies, what i'm doing wrong, and what i shall do ... Thank you !

In the tabs available in the UI, make sure to use Appearance Preset, Hair Preset, Clothing Preset and Morph Preset. Others you find buried in one of the more general tabs (Control and Physics 1) are referred to as legacy presets. Avoid those. If you save an Appearance Preset from that tab, then it will show up in Select Existing on that tab. Legacy presets are in a different place, and have to be loaded from the tab that created them.

Hi.
So... if i understand correctly.
What i shall do is save the presets in the tab i'm using so i can find there.
So, for instance, if i save the Preset with the "Appearence Preset" Tab... ... When i want to load this looks in another scene using this tab, it should work ?
... i feel a bit stupid, as it sounds so simple...
Thank you for taking the time to answer ! I'll give it a try

Correct. Appearance presets are filed under Custom\Atom\Person\Appearance. You shouldn't need to use the pathname saving and restoring from the same tab.

Thank you very much !

I manage to understand how to save the Appearence presets so that i can load them and find them in the same place

But...
I have a slighlty different question...

I've downloaded some Jackaroo looks.
I can find some of them in the "Appaerence Presets", like the other.
But some can't be found... neither in the Appaerence Presets, nor the Looks or Legacy Presets.
For instance, i can find "Esmeralda" Looks, but not "Sephiroth"..... But it says "in the library"

So... am i missing something with those loading pannels again ?

Thanks for your time !

A var file is just a zip file with a very specific directory structure, and a meta.json file at the top to give the tool info about what's inside. You can open a var with 7-Zip, which is free. Once you have it open, just double click on the folders to see where things are. Sometimes things are not packaged correctly. Some characters published as Looks are actually just a sample scene with the model standing there. You have to save an Appearance preset locally to use them in your own scene. This one is like that:
