Is anyone able to help me with this issue?

Everytime I boot VAM I run into a problem where I have to re-update the same packages I've already updated before, and until I do that, scanning the hub for missing referenced packages doesn't work. Is there something I can do to fix this? It's pretty annoying having to wait to re-update the same thing each time I reboot the program.

If you have that behavior you have several possibilities :
  • You don't have rights to write on the addonpackages folder
  • You don't have enough disk space to update the packages
  • You're moving .vars outside of the addonpackages root in sub-folders so vam thinks they need to be updated

The third one might be it actually, thank you!

Sometimes my .vars from creators don't show up in VAM so I manually extract the files and move it outside of the addonpackages folder

Straight forward, but in order to be a kind warning/good pratice help ;)
This is a very bad practice : D

More or less :
  • By extracting var files you're loosing the dependency capability
  • By extracting var files scenes cannot load plugins/assets
  • You will potentially use "local" versions and rebundle them inside your vars if you share content and don't pay attention
A .var never "not show up" unless you're not rescanning or restarting after manually adding a .var.
More or less, you are probably expecting an appearance preset when the creator did a look preset. Or expecting an appearance preset when the user made a scene file.

If you want to know why you don't "see" what you're expecting. Look inside the var to figure out what it is, then load FROM the var at the proper spot in game.

I see, thank for the advice!

I did it initially because I wasn't seeing the appearance as a scene nor a preset and the creator advised me to extract the files.

Should I reinstall VAM? I don't think i'll be able to manually find out which files are causing the problem because there's been too many 😢
