The sky opened up without warning and I ducked under a narrow shop awning, almost bumping into her. She was already there, long brown hair soaked, purple top clinging to her body, arms crossed as she shivered slightly. Our eyes met and she gave me a soft, almost shy smile despite the cold.
We stood close in the small dry space while the rain hammered down around us. After a few quiet minutes she looked up at me and said, “My apartment is just around the corner… if you want to get warm.”
Inside she didn’t bother turning on many lights. Still damp from the rain, she peeled the wet top over her head, stepped out of her skirt, and pulled me toward the bedroom with that same gentle smile, the cold outside quickly forgotten.
