I ring the doorbell expecting my buddy to answer. Instead, the door swings open and Lexa is standing there with a knowing smile, looking far more prepared for my arrival than I am for hers. I'd always thought she was attractive, confident, playful, and completely unapologetic about the attention she attracted, but tonight she seems to be making no effort to hide it.​

"You're right on time," she says, stepping aside to let me in.​

The way she says it makes me pause. Not your friend will be down in a minute. Not come on in. Just you're right on time.​

As I step inside, she closes the door behind me and leans casually against the wall, watching me with amused eyes. For a moment, it feels like she's enjoying the fact that I can't quite figure out whether this is a coincidence or whether she knew exactly who would be standing on the other side of that door all along. Her smile widens slightly, and suddenly I'm not so sure I came here to see my friend anymore.​
