Character Transparency

Plugins Character Transparency

What is this?
This is a plugin which manages the transparency of all body parts of a Person.
You can go up to -100% and totally hide a character.

Moving the sliders will change the transparency of the related body part.
A 'Global transparency' slider is available for applying quickly the same transparency to all body parts.

The transparency settings are kept when saving a scene. They are also triggerable.

A small demo scene is included.

It works with decals:

Resource used in the screenshot: Body writing.

It also works for Male characters (although it will throw an error for some reason):

Hair & clothing are unaffected:

How to use
  1. Select a character (preferably female, and one not using the "dummy skins")
  2. Go to its "Plugin" tab and click on the "Add Plugin" button
  3. Click on the "Select File..." button that should have appeared and browse to the "CharacterTransparency" plugin (click on "AddonPackages flattened on the left menu and search for "CharacterTransparency" if you don't find it)
  4. Once plugin is added, you can go to its settings by clicking on "Open Custom UI..." button. Play with the sliders!
Note that some individual body parts sliders will not apply to female characters, and some will not apply to male characters. They have a mention "(if female)" or "(if male)" respectively.

For object to show up under a "transparent character", you may need to adjust its render queue value (under the "Material" tab):

Known issues:
  • The plugin will not work when using those skins:
    • Female dummy
    • Male dummy
  • After changing skins or appearance, you may need to reload the plugin for it to work as intended (only in some cases, no idea why).
  • Using the plugin on males will throw an error for some reason. But it works nonetheless (remember to reload the plugin, though). Edit: should now be fixed in 1.1
  • Among the default male skins available, use the ones by "Jackaroo": it just works with them. Some default male skin will malfunction for the genital area; to fix this, select one of the Jackaroo skins instead and then select the other skin and it should work as well (again, no idea why).
  • Gloss and specular effects on skin textures will be nullified by the plugin. I'm unsure if a fix can be made for this. More details in the discussion tab.
If someone more skilled with coding than me (this is should not be hard) can take a look at why this is behaving this way, I'll be grateful and happy to update an improved version!

Dependencies & thanks
No dependency, but many thanks to previous creators involved in this plugin (Doofenschmalphys, Seamonkey & @Acid Bubbles based on the credits inside the script).
I really struggled to make a usable plugin, which saves transparency settings, based on this previous plugin. I'm no expert on this, so expect some bugs! Hopefully not too many ;)

Also I'd like to thank @Jiraiya & @JayJayWon who helped me get over some issues with plugin creation.

I'll update the Sex dolls resource (which used the old plugin) with this one when I can.

Is it possible for just making part of the body transparant such as the belly

Very cool mod, unfortunately cannot use it as it gives me a generic null error?

Nice but when going semi-transparent whenever looking through all clothing vanishes when looking through to semi-transparent part, it only comes back when it goes full transparent, any way to fix?

Thanks! There is a way: look at the "Note on other objects" spoiler in the "How to use section". It also applies for clothing - you'll have to change the render queue of each material that you want to see. That could also be managed on the plugin side - maybe on a future update! good plugin, but removes texture gloss for some reason

Yes indeed, it interferes with gloss. I'm not sure I can do something against this...

Awesome plugin. It would be nice if you make the option for right and left sides separate invisibility, instead of both at once. That would make it possible to have one legged or one armed or one eyed people if you want to.

Thanks! This plugin changes the transparency of whole materials; to change it partially it'll require to add some alpha textures into the mix. Another plugin does just that: take a look at "Hide Skin By Mask" by Hunting-Succubus ;)
