VaM Desktop ReShade + RTGI Guide 2024 + Presets - Step-By-Step Guide for ReShade Desktop + RTGI in VaM

ReShade Guide for VaM

Introduction

This guide will help you set up ReShade with your VaM install. I will only be discussing ReShade for desktop use as I haven’t tried it with VR. I will include a few of my favorite presets if you want to attain the looks in the pictures included at the end of the guide. Please bear in mind I made these presets on an OLED monitor in HDR so your results may vary, although it should still look good. ReShade presets are all about...

Not sure you need to generate the depth buffer anymore, the latest version of VAM has a userpref for this.

Thanks for the guide though, reshade is great to tinker with for some really unique scene setups.

Munchyman25 updated VaM Desktop ReShade + RTGI Guide 2024 + Presets with a new update entry:

Fixed Black Levels for ReShade Presets

I noticed the black levels were sort of off, giving more of a gray appearance. I have tweaked the presets slightly to correct this. I also disabled HDR to tweak these so it should be closer to what the average user will see, although without an OLED monitor you won't be able to obtain perfect black levels unfortunately. The presets have also been renamed. Of course, feel free to use these presets as a template to fit your particular needs.

Thanks for the feedback! I've always wondered what that option would be good for, so I'll give it a try.

I can't seem to get past step 4. When i change reshade_depth_input_is_reversed to 0, my screen turns black but when its on 1. the 50/50 blue white appears

Great guide! The author could point out that he borrowed half of the material in this manual from another author!?

these are not equivalent steps. Yes you likely need that checked in vam, but you also need to check it in reshade. you are not generating anything in reshade, just telling it which buffer to read from and copy if necessary.

@Munchyman25 good post. I was unsure why a setup guide was needed for a tool with its own installer but you included most of the useful info I would have added. Only thing is hdr, you gravely underestimate the effect of it imo. tbh the screenshots you posted look really bad to me due to the incorrect gamut. OLED isnt a huge problem. If you want to ship more presets definitely recommend spending most of the time without HDR and have hdr users grab the autohdr addon

Regarding VR usage it is possible if you find the correct depth buffer at least for steamvr but I don't recommend it. I get well above 60 fps on desktop with complete rt or immerse RTGI but its not playable in VR unless you restrict to only using mild effects like LUTs which there are plugins to do natively. I have a 4070 ti super and 7900x btw
