Often times when I load a pose I downloaded, the axis are all messed up. This makes it difficult to rotate the model, because for example if you rotate the x axis, it isn't aligned with the world's x axis, making it rotate diagonally. Can't I just reset the axis so that the current position is made the new 0 on all 3 axis?

It would also be nice if I can do the same for the movement, because often times the actual model is some distance away from the control globe thing whatever it's called.

Assuming you work in Desktop mode it may be worth checking out the PowerHandles plugin. When holding Shift it switches to the global coordinate system rather than the local one.
