Hello all.

I have seen scenes where, when you click one button, another menu appears and the button you press becomes a "go back" button if you understand what I mean.

Is this done by using sub scenes?

Hey.

It's simply done using triggers, that you can find within the buttons themselves for instance:

Steps:
  1. Go to the trigger tab
  2. Add a trigger and set it: the "Receiver Atom" should be the atom you want to show or hide. Select "AtomControl" as "Receiver" and "on" as "Receiver target". Tick on or off the checkbox, depending on if you want to show or hide the atom when clicking on the button.
  3. You're done. You can repeat the 2nd step any number of times if you want to add more actions. Click on the button to try it out!

For your example, you'll need 2 buttons (the 1st and the "Go back" button) and a menu (let's say a UIText).
The 1st button should have 3 triggers: hide itself, show the menu & show the "Go back" button.
The "Go back" button should have very similar triggers: hide itself, hide the menu & show the 1st button.

Here's a video of what you can achieve with this kind of system: https://www.redgifs.com/watch/functionalcultivatedviceroybutterfly
If you want to experiment and retro-engineer a bit, this one makes an extensive use of it: https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/subscene-interactive-scifi-fucking-machine.6313/
