Hey man,
They're not animations, they're just static poses. You can load them by going to the Pose Presets tab of your Person Atom and browsing to the .var folder with the poses.
Everything you need to do in VAM, if it's not configured, it's not going to automatically work. For a bodypart to be able to move, you need to configure that somehow by moving the character's nodes (i.e. their controls). While in your scene with your UI open, press T to see your active nodes, they're the green dots. To move these nodes, you can either use VAM's built-in forces (not recommended), or use plugins like
Timeline,
AutoThruster, among many many other plugins dedicated to moving the controls, depends on your personal preference and for the goal you have on your scene. For simple movements (like moving your hip up-down, forward-backward), I personally like to use AutoThruster because it's more straightforward. You just select the node you want to move (i.e. hipControl), select how long it takes, depth, etc. Timeline is recommended if you want to create personalized and delicate movements and positions for the nodes. It's more complicated because you're actually creating an ANIMATION, AutoThruster just varies your node position and rotation relative to the initial parameters.
Alternatively to loading these poses into Person Atoms in a new scene, you can load the demo scene provided by poke19 and load the appearances into the Person Atoms already in the scene, I think it'd be simpler for the goal you're looking for.
Hope it's clear.
