Hello! I've just downloaded this pose pack:

Now if I load a simple scene with a character in it, how can I add these animated poses to the character?

Hey man,

They're not animations, they're just static poses. You can load them by going to the Pose Presets tab of your Person Atom and browsing to the .var folder with the poses.
Everything you need to do in VAM, if it's not configured, it's not going to automatically work. For a bodypart to be able to move, you need to configure that somehow by moving the character's nodes (i.e. their controls). While in your scene with your UI open, press T to see your active nodes, they're the green dots. To move these nodes, you can either use VAM's built-in forces (not recommended), or use plugins like Timeline, AutoThruster, among many many other plugins dedicated to moving the controls, depends on your personal preference and for the goal you have on your scene. For simple movements (like moving your hip up-down, forward-backward), I personally like to use AutoThruster because it's more straightforward. You just select the node you want to move (i.e. hipControl), select how long it takes, depth, etc. Timeline is recommended if you want to create personalized and delicate movements and positions for the nodes. It's more complicated because you're actually creating an ANIMATION, AutoThruster just varies your node position and rotation relative to the initial parameters.
Alternatively to loading these poses into Person Atoms in a new scene, you can load the demo scene provided by poke19 and load the appearances into the Person Atoms already in the scene, I think it'd be simpler for the goal you're looking for.

Hope it's clear.

Thanks! But the description says "simple timeline loops" so I assumed these are little animations?

What I wanted to accomplish was: Loading a room I like, place a character I like, add an animation.

Yes, but it's the demo scene he provided that contain the timeline loops. Go to the Plugins tab of one of the Person Atoms in the demo scene and you'll see that one of them has a timeline plugin to it, which is what is controlling their nodes.
If you were to create a new scene and load these poses into new characters, they'd be static because no animation would be configured. That's why if you just want to change the Person Atom's appearance and maintain the animations, it's better for you to modify the already-existing demo scene instead of creating a new one from scratch.

I know, VAM is a little bit more complicated than your usual 3D sex sandbox. It's closer to making a game than playing it, actually. You have to configure everything by yourself, which is part of what makes it unique and personal.
If you just want to change the place and appearance, first load up the demo scene, then go to each of the Person Atom's "Look Presets" tab and change them for the appearances you want. You can do the same with the place, add a CustomUnityAsset to the scene and search for the asset you want, then place it on the scene accordingly. You'll probably also have to change the lighting a little bit. Then save the scene and it's now your custom scene. Just pay attention to which scenes you can publish modified. This one would be ok because it's CC-BY, but depending on the license it'd have to be only for your personal use.

I see! Could I not just copy over the timeline animation to another character, too? Or is it more complex?

I think, otherwise it would be possible to merge load two scenes.. it's long ago that I did it. Wasn't it like that, that you choose "merge load scene", pick two scenes, then delete what you don't need, swap characters and kinda customize like this the easy way?

Yes, you can absolutely merge load scenes to make it easier for you.
To transfer the timeline animation, that's actually a good question, I guess if you save it as "Plugin Presets" and load into a new character it might work. But I never tried it, so I can't say.
One thing you have to pay attention is that timeline will only control the nodes it's configured to control. For example let's say timeline is only moving the hip, chest and head. Then I guess if you transfer these to a new character, it's only going to affect these three nodes. The other body parts will be controlled by the pose it's loaded. My point is that IF loading a Plugin Preset with timeline into a new character works, you have to keep this in mind that some stuff might break. But give it a try.
