GPU: NVIDIA 5070ti
CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3D
RAM: 32GB DDR5-6400

No overclocking at all.

Was a litte worried about my GPU underpeforming, cause I knew that would be the throttle (I got the 9800x3D on a somewhat decent sale, so I was happy to spend the extra $100 AUD to get it over a 7800x3D) but it seems to be comparing pretty well to the 5080 benches here, given the price difference I'd say it was a good choice.

Hey I just bought a 5070ti and I can get it to 100% utilization but the power draw will never pass roughly 170 watts and the performance is quite bad, in other games or benchmarks it can hit 300 watts. Is your 5070ti pulling 250+ watts when you make it gpu limited? Thanks for your time if you could check this for me.

Ran another benchmark with HWInfo open to check this, it was a custom benchmark cause I didn't feel like restarting VaM without session plugins but I doubt it matters for this. I did pull around 220-250 watts for most of it, peaking at ~257W for a short period;
Not quite the 300 you were quoting, but def higher than 170 watts.

Did you add (and configure) the CPU performance patch? I reckon it only didn't help much for me due to the really good CPU I have, on my old rig it helped quite a bit (can't remember the numbers though).

If it hits 300W on other games, then it must be something in the software for VaM, or something to do with VR if you are running that here and not elsewhere. The only other thing I could think to check would be bypassing SteamVR if you are running it in VR, I don't get how it would help but it is about the only other thing I could think of bar the patch (and obvious things like drivers, which I am assuming you have checked by this point)...

Edit: Actually I also have the NVIDIA Overaly disabled, as it can apparently cause Virtual Desktop to run slower, so that's another thing to check?
Kinda reaching here though tbh, I really have no clue what could cause 100% utilization but lower power draw outside of thermal throttling or undervolting, I'm still somewhat of a beginner with all this

Has anyone tested/benchmarked the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K vs AMD CPUs with a 5080? I'm seeing online Cinebench benchmarks showing intel has a higher single core performance score however if I could see the comparison with screenshots, it would make it more clear.

285k runs worse than 13900k for vam. Therefore even worse than 7800x3d or 9800x3d. Sim games love 3d cache.

Hello, maybe someone knows what is better to choose for physics simulation, for example 3-4 characters in a scene with soft physics? I have a choice between 5700x and 5700x3d. I wonder what is better, a higher frequency or a larger cache.

To be honest, this took me three or four days and nearly a hundred tests in total. But after playing this game for so long, I have always been curious about how much improvement different hardware specifications can achieve at different resolutions, and where the budget should be spent most...

It beats my old 13900k built, by a tiny bit, but it's totally not worth uprgrading if going from gen 12-14.
As for intel fanboys, like myself, the only hope for a gaming performance is upcoming Nova Lake platform, releasing near the end of this year. They finally will use bigger cache and will be able to catch up with AMD.

New benchmarks with an 7700X at stock speed and DDR5 6000 CL15!

At 1080p, everything got much better vs the 9700K, except for the "Mirror" benchmark.
I'm especially happy with the "Baseline 3" improvement!

For now I'm excited to see how my own scenes will perform with my new setup .
I'm also in the process over learning to overclock this AMD setup, I only know manual OC and not this PBO thingy. Some first experimentations were promising, but it'll probably take a while before I'll get to a stable configuration I want to settle on 24/7. There will be new benchmarks from me whenever I get there!

Edit: just tried some of my own scenes. Wow, I am so grateful for this advanced EUV lithography technology people have developed, much soft body physics can be had now ?

Apart from the benchmarks, did you see an in game difference between 7700x and 7800x3d?

It's hard to quantify, but I'm sure it did.

The X3D cpu's cache help avoid minuscule stalls that would otherwise occur when data needs to be fetched from main memory. The avarage and top 1% FPS don't really improve much with this cache, but the minimum 1% FPS do. You don't only see this effect in VaM, but in most games. Benchmarks are static, but this effect is so thoroughly documented, I think you can extrapolate it to actual in-game performance. That's why I'm sure it did.

Also note that hardware is just one aspect to help improve the game's performance; tweaking your settings (e.g. using Virtual Desktop w/ OpenXR instead of SteamVR, graphics settings, scene/person presets, ...) is another. Both can equally influence performance. I've also fiddled a lot with this besides all hardware upgrades, making it harder to quantify differences of purely the CPU upgrade outside of the static benchmarks.
