Hey guys,

Anyone know if VAM or a plugin can track another person or a human sized doll/mannequin in VAM, similar to the way it can currently do hand tracking with Virtual Desktop?

The idea is simple: imagine if your real hands can reach out and touch another human or a doll/mannequin who is embodied by a VAM character in the game…

Virtually touching a character in VAM would instantly give real tactile sensation and input to you. Move the VAM character and you would be really moving the other person or doll/mannequin.

Probably would start out janky and awkward at first but the application would be enormous.

Anyone have any ideas or has this been done before?

Do you mean without body trackers? There's a plugin for using a Kinect device (see below). Also, there are probably many options for full body tracking with webcams if you do a web search. Not sure if they'd work with VaM on their own though, or with a motionless figure.

Funny enough, I had the same idea few days ago. I think I might have a solution for you.
Check back in few days 😉

I've seen the Kinect2VAM idea before but haven't invested in one yet, it looks like it received some mixed results and is quite dated. Some of the complaints were regarding complex dance moves which is understandable, and for my purposes it wouldn't need to be that reactive, only good enough to sense that your hand is reaching and making contact with a body part node that is paired to a physical asset (real human body part or toy/mannequin body part).

Our brains are very easy to trick, especially when we want to be (which is why VR works so well). For the sense of touch, as long as something even vaguely resembles what our vision sees and we want to accept it as reality, I believe this would unlock a mind blowing new world of opportunity for the VR and VAM community.

Really interested in what CraSh.it comes up with!
