• Happy Holidays Guest!

We want to announce that we will be working at reduced staffing for the holidays. Specifically Monday the 23rd until Jan 2nd.

This will affect approval queue times and responses to support tickets. Please adjust your plans accordingly and enjoy yourselves this holiday season!

  • Hi Guest!

Please be aware that we have released a critical security patch for VaM. We strongly recommend updating to version 1.22.0.7 using the VaM_Updater found in your installation folder.

Details about the security patch can be found here.

ATTENTION

This show is NOT a MoCap record but those are translated keyframe animations known as MMD animations.

Ok ok, but whats the thing with all those "MMD animations" flying around the VaM world? There is only a little or no information about it at all. Like mushrooms they just appeard out of nowhere and are spreaded here on the HUB.
So the casual VaM user is more likely to think "oh yeah this funny, wonky j-style dance animation again". But what's behind it?

As an early fan of MMD in general I feel like I want to give at least some raw information about this whole MMD thingy to our community for a better understanding in general and some background knowledge for you. I really recommend to read the spoiler text to get some background info and maybe to have a laugh at my english skills :p

So here we go:

MMD is the shortcut for Miku Miku Dance. Interesting enough the MMD software (created by Yu Higuchi / 2008) was actually just a side product to a big marketing campain from YAMAHA back then which introduced their brandnew software "VOCALOID".

VOCAOID on the other hand is basically a speech synthesizer which allows on behalf of texts, melodics and intonations to create various anime styled singing sounds. Originally released "Miku" was the main protagonist and one of the sounds to choose from. It sounds pretty close YAMAHA thought it is a nice idea if their characters could actually dance to their own voice. This was the birth of Miku Miku Dance.

Since the software is free to use it was followed by a massive explosion of MMD videos with tons of animations and cover songs. Seeing the big impact of MMD, YAMAHA was never interested in profiting from it but simply accepted the success regardless of the fact nobody would ever think about YAMAHA when watching MMD dances or even using the software. Thanks YAMAHA! =D

Today there is a massive community grown and sharing tons over tons of dances, other animations, shortclips, clothing, characters and more.

MMD animations are basically nothing less than keyframe animations stored as .vmd files. The quality of each animation strongly depends on the authors effort to draw every single move into the MMD "timeline". Nowadays it is also possible to "record" MMD animations using motion tracing technology.
However the translation into VaM is a complete different story. It took some time until it became possible but the results were less satisfying. There are a lot of "problems" when it comes to a VaM translation of those animations so I won't go through everything. One of the biggest problems is the fact MMD animations are NOT created with any body physics and our genesis 2F body in mind (actually not with any gegesis rig in mind). Those two facts are the main reason why MMD animations translated to VaM often look like robots on steroids. However there are some creators around offering plugins as solutions which started pretty wonky but deliver medium to good quality today depending in the input file. They're pretty easy all in one solutions for the casual VaMmmer who just wants
to see his model performing a MMD dance.

Getting beyond the point of quality of an "all in one" plugin you will need to translate the physics and joint behaviors for each dance single handed. There is no general setting for all MMD dances to look good. It's basically up to you to record needed body parts and make the most out of it by using the VaM physics system and joint behaviors.

However if you just skip my monologue here is what you get inside this free release:

-> 2 different MMD animations (dances) with individual physics / joint settings / edits!
-> Easy and smooth switch between the dances
-> Easy character replacement (use a "height pole" in the scene to adjust)
-> Design your OWN show with various buttons and possibilities / randomization!
-> Each show has it's own flair and if you wish with random effects so you have a lot of replayability (same like in volume 2!)
-> For desktop users a separate randomly moving CAMRIDE version ( VR users can just jump on the platform using the teleport feature! )

ENJOY!

Your C&G-STUDIO ?

NOTE: The massive ammount of keyframes is the reason the .var file is pretty big so don't worry ;)
