Can buttons on your VR controller be used to trigger an action?

I want to setup a short zombie scene for Halloween with a first-person shooter segment where pressing the trigger on your Oculus/Vive wand would fire a gun. Is something like that possible?
 
Sure, you would need to make a plugin for it, though. My VirtualLock plugin (part of "Connect") is detecting button presses and then triggers stuff based on it. Still in EarlyAccess, but it will be free Sunday/Monday'ish.

Alternatively you could take a look at the various hotkey plugins floating around.
 
Thanks for the info. Most of the existing hotkey plugs I've seen only use keyboard or gamepad, but yours sounds promising. I'll have to check that one out in a few days.
