Hello, so I published my first look for VAM with a hairstyle and a 'style preset'. Everything loads correctly but the style preset.

So when I downloaded the look on a fresh install everything turned out great but the hairstyle is just the standard one 'unstyled/brushed'.

The same happens when I load the appearance preset. The hair is just 'unstyled' and I have to apply the preset manually via the 'Hair' and 'Preset' tabs.

How do I include the styled hair in the file to publish and also to automatically load as a default when loading in the appearance?

I haven't messed with hair presets, but looking at your var there's no hair preset file present in the file list. You might have to manually add the preset files to the list of files in the packager.

Also, the hairstyle you've chosen isn't actually available for download on the Hub, so when others download your resource to a fresh install, there won't be any hair on the model at all. (I've reached out to the creator to see if they'd like to host that hair on the hub, but I haven't heard back yet)

Yeap Ash is right.
But it's weird you did not had any warning on the packaging. As a missing file will warn you that you need to include it.

Ah thanks for the info. Yeah there wasn't a warning that it's missing on the hub.

How do you guys include your styled hair in your publishing? Do you style the hair and then create a NEW Hair file with it? or do you put the preset inside the var?

A warning "in the packager", not on the hub ^^
Generally the packager will always tell you that you created this or that dependency and will ask for you to include it.

If you're using a preset you made, simply include the preset files into the var you're publishing.
This is only valid if you want people to actually use the preset (and is for instance, very very different from the original)... but presets are absolutely not needed as hair settings are stored into the scene or into your appearance anyway.

ah yes, thats what I read in the forums also. Somehow it DOESN'T store my styled hair in the scene. On scene load it loads up the hairstyle, the color, but not the styled preset (brush, cut etc.)

EDIT: I forgot to check "Store preset name in Scene", now it does load on scene load. But it still doesnt load the styled/customized hair on appearance load in different scenes

You don't understand: Presets ARE NOT loaded when your scene loads. Preset name saved inside of the scene is just a way of I don't know... remember the preset maybe? For whatever reason, it is somewhat useless if you look at the "goal" of that flag.

Grab the json file provided with this post and ensure you have downloaded Hadley. This is a scene file, you can put it in your Saves folder. Load it, you'll see that the scene loads perfectly fine with the specific "preset/customization" I did for the scene.

Grab the .vap file provided with the post. This is an appearance file, you can put it in Custom\Atom\Person\Appearance, you'll see that the appearance loads perfectly fine with the hair setup.

You can compare Hadley's default hairs and the one I gave you here.

Can you provide/send both a test scene and a test appearance of yours so that I check the files?

Your scene only contains the tip color (which will restore only that part).
The appearance on the other hand seems to contain more data but that seems logical.

Loading both lends the same result, so for me, nothing is wrong. I don't know what you're expecting. Do you have a shot before/after where you think it's wrong?

so basically when I load the appearance it looks like the image on the left (thats the un-styled version of the hair im using for the model). The color is the right one. But the appearance was saved with the right hairstyle. I want that one to load on appearance change. As for now I always have to load the appearance, switch to clothing, load the preset for the piercing, switch to hair, load the preset for the hair.

How can you get that difference? Are you actually trying to modify the brush/cut or what we call overall "groom" of the hairs?

If that's the case: not possible. You can influence the physics, colors, settings of the hairs. You will not be able to modify the groom as a preset. You need to fork the hairs as a new version if you want to do that (if obviously the licence authorizes it).
