If you play this script for a while after installing it, you won't be able to stop using it, if it recognizes and loads all the vars, it will become a tumor instead of an assistant, and when you try to uninstall it to speed up the startup, you will find a lot of errors.

Just a note, i hoarded aroun 1.5tb, but my main ssd has only 1tb.
(i had Vam installed on my hdd).
Anyway, it is possible to save AlllPackages not only in root folder, but even on another disk -

1. Move your existing allpackages folder (if any) out of the VaM directory.
2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator (Windows).
3. Run the following command:
   cmd
   
   mklink /J "C:\Path\To\VaM\allpackages" "D:\Path\To\allpackages"
   • Replace C:\Path\To\VaM\ with your actual VaM install location.
   • Replace D:\Path\To\allpackages with the actual location of your allpackages folder.

Now, the plugin should detect the allpackages folder as if it were in the VaM directory.

Might be usefull to add it in guide.

Hi, how to fully delete this plugin? I like it but only the cache folder is taking me more than 100 GB (almost half of the total size of the AddonPackages folder), wich is a waste of space, in my opinion, only to browse files. I mean the JayJayWon BrowserAssist it doesnt need this for example.
Can i just delete all the following folders ? BepInEx, Cache, InvalidPackages, AllPackages. Thanks

If you want to remove because of a large cache, check the VAM \ Cache \ Textures \ ... folder, this is the largest eater of disk space and it does not relate to Var Browser . Also, can try this plugin Limit Cache.

Yes, look/google into "symlinking" a folder.

I added a folder into my "Allpackages" via the symlink command.
This folder that's added via symlink -> is a folder on a seperate 2TB drive, which is filled to the brim with only vars.

Then inside the "addonpackages" folder, you add another symlink folder (with the same name as the one in "allpackages") -> that resides on the same 2TB drive.

This means that when the var browser wants to use a .var on this 2TB drive it only has to "move" the file on the drive itself, and it doesn't copy/paste the .var between drives (very bad if you have .vars copying from drive to drive constantly).


Never set it up in a way where you are copying .vars between different drives constantly, you'll destroy the lifespan of both drives.

If you mean some vars not uninstalling, it could possibly be that any vars you set as auto-install/favorite are also loading other related/required vars. Otherwise, I haven't experienced that issue myself.

This happens when a duplicate of a .var exists in both the /addonpackages and the /allpackages folder.

Often caused by people downloading via the "official" HUB button on the main screen, rather then the HUB button in the var browser UI.
(The HUB from the var browser menu -> downloads .vars into /allpackages -> Good).
