Question Oculus Quest 2 hand tracking won't work - what am I doing wrong?

I'd like to track my hands to control the VR hands directly using Quest 2 hand tracking instead of controllers, but I can't get it to work.

Here's what I'm currently doing:
- Turn on Quest 2 and turn on hand tracking (it works very well in the Quest 2 environment)
- Open Oculus app on PC
- Turn on Oculus link on Quest 2 (wireless 5Ghz on PC and Quest 2), which launches the grey grid Oculus environment *I no longer have hand tracking at this point*
- Open VAM via "Launch VR" in the updater. VAM loads in the Quest 2 environment just fine and I can interact with the controllers, but no hand tracking.

I have also tried turning on Leap Motion hand tracking in "VR2" tab of User Preferences as suggested by another thread here, but nothing from that either.

It works for me using ALVR instead of oculus app
