hi, i was wandering about startup texture loading.

when i first try to load a scene it loads the textures but it takes forever even with the Cache they added, to be honest it takes so much space and i don't see any improvement at all😕

i prefer asking here for help from people who understand that stuff instead of blindly installing plugins

so is there a plugin that can help with that and which one should i use? 🙏🤞

I always flush the cache when it hits 20 GB. I think letting it get too big defeats the purpose. Whatever Vam is doing with the textures when loading a scene, it's not very efficient.

I don't know of one, but doesn't mean there isn't. I would take a look at the performance patches here on the hub as those can help speed some things up. I don't remember if texture loading was one of them. But the biggest help is running VAM from a SSD instead of a HDD.

I don't know the technical parts, but from what I've seen over the years when talking about this, I believe that VAM is converting and writing the textures into a GPU suitable format and placing them on RAM. If cached from an earlier conversion, then it just loads them into RAM.
Taking this as my understanding of the process, caching is useful for textures you reuse often, like in favourite looks you change to, and wasteful for things you only use once.
I change looks a lot and try little new content, so for me the cache is very useful. If you're the opposite, disabling caching will save space but the time to load a new scene or person will possibly have little effect.

ok so yea vam is indeed in HDD drive i didn't even know it
problem is i cant really move it to SSD since vam takes a tone of space that my SSD drives don't have
even if i do buy SSD large drive is it even possible to move vam when its 786 GB 😅

seems that's the only option i have though maybe the big reason is HDD problem😅
