There's the default available wooden floor in VAM but if you have textures in unity to make floor of different looks and you can make one easy with the assetbundler browser. ( tutorial in youtube on how to create Unity stuff for VAM it's like 50 minutes long, but he tells you how to do it easy in the first 3 minutes).

But if you make one, how big does it have to be, can it be just be a plane of any size but bigger than something?

The unit system in Unity is the same as in VaM. One unit is one meter.
The standard cube in Unity (at scale 1.0) is exactly one meter at each side. If you use the standard plane mesh, that's 10x10 meters, I think.

You make a plane basically as big as you want it, e.g. if you want it to go into infinity. At several kilometers you might eventually run into trouble, though.
