I would like to populate the background of my club scene with people, but adding more than 4 really affects fps. They do not need to move or react in any way (with a strobe and lighting affects I think it will still look ok). I have already turned off all physics, collision, plugins and even blinking on background characters, but the fps still goes down significantly for each person I add. Is there any way to add people like one would add a piece of furniture? When I add a chair for example there is no significant change. Thanks!

I would like to know this as well but I think this is only possible via assets, meaning prerendered static persons.

There are some ways to do this.
-One is very simple: 2d silhouette figures on image panels. You can create them for instance from VaR screenshots. You can even cut them out and save them as PNG with transparency. Not very pretty, but easy to do. I once did this for a dark club scene, and it was somewhat okish.
-You can create custom unity assets, for instance from DAZ figures (to keep the VaM look). These figures can even be animated. You can almost use any 3d figure you are able to download. I did this with DAZ figures, but those are copyright protected and can't be shared.
-You can use 3d scanned people. Those are not in the same style like VaM and (mostly) can't be animated, but looking creepy real from a distance.
-There are some very few ready made background people around in some scenes. Maybe you can find some, but maybe not on official websites.
-All of those background people have MUCH less performance impact than a single VaM figure. I ince did a scene with 16 of them, and it was almost no fps drop.

That looks amazing! I will have to see it in VR

Thanks to all for the detailed reply. Seems like the best way would be to learn how to create custom unity assets. It is something I have been meaning to learn once I master the basics of virt-a-mate, but seems like it is probably a little difficult. Does anyone know of a good guide or video to get started on creating unity assets for virt a mate from Daz?

For anyone else interested in this topic, I found some free "person" assets on this site. I added about 6 in a scene to test and there was almost no affect on fps. The assets are even animated, although there is no collision, physics, etc. Pretty good for background and quality is quite good. Hopefully others (or myself if I learn how) can add more such assets to the hub for background characters in everyday situations (sitting, talking, etc.).

Here is one I found:

This member has many great assets available!

Yes, I already went through all your great assets! Almost made me forget this was a porn game when looking up at King Kong in the forest :)
Thanks for offering your help. I think I would need to acquire at least a basic skill in unity first. I do have a question though, I read somewhere that the latest version of unity is not able to convert CUA. Is that still the case, and if so, which version should I have. Thanks!

So I've figured out how to export assets from unity (using McGruber's guide). The problem is that there are very limited free "people" assets available. I have Character Creator 3 to do custom made people assets, and can export to the avatar to unity, which by default places the avatar in a t-pose. Do you know if there is any way to pose the avatar in unity? Most info online is for more recent versions, since I can only use 2018 version which is pretty obsolete. Thanks!

Wow, this is so cool!!

I tried this today with a file from deviant-art. This is something I really had no idea about - there must be hundreds or thousands of these. Most seem to be fantasy style of game or anime characters. I did not try animating or posing the characters yet but the plugin so far worked easily. I placed 6 characters in a scene and although it did have some affect of FPS, not as much as a "person" atom. Next I will try it with animation and posing. Thanks for telling me about this plugin.
