I’ve got a tattoo saved as a PNG file. But when I try to slap it on in-game just by adding it as a decal, it ends up looking all messed up because of the body’s surface details.
Is there any way to import my tattoo into the game as a proper skin instead of just a flat picture?
 
I am not sure what you mean with "body's surface details", i guess the uv mapping/distortion?

Additionally to LubaFoto's great answer you can also use tools like Substance Painter (especially for texture work, ~200 bucks, need to learn the app) or a graphics program (free paint.net would be enough), there are 2 guides for that here on the hub:


Decal Maker is great (i just published an image pack for it on the hub yesterday), but you will still have the problem of some distortion at specific regions because of the way the mapping from 2d image to 3d geometry works.

As an alternative i could create the correct decals for you if you send me links or the images.
