Basically this,

my VAM is getting slow, I already sourced stuff out and copied folders in an out but this is time consuming and not very comfortable.

I know that var browser is an option, but it relies on external software, seems to not get updated anymore and you can't use additional browser plug ins - like BroserAssist from JayJayWon.

Is there anything out there like var Broser but with ongoing support and plug in support?

Or does anyone have a tip how I can manage large amount of vars without loosing too much speed?

Many thanks in advance.

Dirve:\virt-a-mate\Custom can also slow down, especially Drive:\virt-a-mate\Custom\Atom\Person\Morphs. There also existe some .VAR morph compilation outside the hub that existe, witch are most likely just a bunch of useless duplicates.

Ok, so I chekced the morphs folder hwich is basically empty.
The custom folder by whole is about 3,6 Gigs. Mostly some clothing (which I deleted now) and some texture / genitalia, *.tif files about 126 MB each!
And there are some decal maker cache files about 60 MB each.

Anyway, I suppose there's no nifty tool like var browser which gets updated and is more compatible with newer vam versions?
And does anybody here still use var browser?

Yes. It's called Browser Assist. I'm not kidding you. JayJayWon added Var Browser-like functionality to offload VARs from huge collections. Look it up. There's lot of discussions on this much needed feature. If you use it and like it, you get everything you want: updated software and integration with BA.

Just for the record, I still use Var Browser WITH Browser Assist. It's a little clunky, but the two plugins co-exist with no conflict.
