I feel like I should be seeing better results? VaM folder is 80 GB with 20 GB of cache so nothing crazy. CPU stock settings, GPU undervolted but stable. Temps seem fine. RAM at correct DOCP profile. Running windows 11 even though it says 10 here. Maybe I just need a whole new rig seeing some of the posts here

Edit: Ran another benchmark on a clean install and got the exact same results.

Yes I know, next step is the CPU. But new mobo also needed, and maybe the 2666 rams also outdated. It costs nearly same as the gpu. I can’t find enough info how the new 12th gen cpus perform vam and vam 2. In other games there are not that much differences beetwen i3 i5 and i7 when overclocked in 4K, only 10-15%.

The 12th gen i7 and i9 should perform pretty similarly, the only difference between them is a small frequency bump and the number of E cores.

I would also want ddr5 if possible but if you end up with ddr4 then get 3600 cl14/16 it really makes the system more snappy overall.

For VaM 1.x you want single core performance. The more, the better. VaM 2.x will be different. But how much is just speculation at this point. It will definitely profit from more cores. 3200 CL16 RAM should be enough for everything. You'll only gain benefits from faster RAM if you're CPU bottlenecked.

Yes it is obvious that i9 only worth for pros. But who knows an oc i3 vs i7k how performs, because the single core performance not differ that much… I only play games with my pc, browsing and working with MacBook…

I think its safe to say no i3 OC is going to get close to i7/9 performance even OC. Personally I wouldn't even consider dropping the kind of coin that a new mobo ram and most probably power supply as well to then only buy an i3. Minimum that makes sense to me is i5-12600k..

Yes, but I watched many videos, read tests, and the conclusion is the 3080 and above in 4k has the same fps in nearly every AAA titles with i3 and i9. But where the i9 wins is not as much to worth buying instead an 3090+i3 from the price of the 3080+i9 setup. And the 3090 is a future proof investment in gaming. Today I ordred an 12400f, because the i3 is out of stock, and found only one shop, which has cheap mobo and i5 there.

The difference is we are not talking about AAA titles we are talking vam which is a very very different beast and more cpu is always desirable. I do hope the new cpu doesnt bottleneck your gpu as the core speed on the 12400 is not anywhere near the clock freq of the 12600k or the i7/i9. Personally I'd have never bought a cpu with such a low clock speed for vam application....I will be interested to see the benchmark results.

The i5 12400 has 25% more single thread performance, and 20% more freq compared to i9-9900k. The i3 12100 has nearly the same performance as the i9-9900k with 4 cores, but better single core specs. With ddr5 the i3 12100 just kicks you out of your boots. The i9 12900's and the i7 12700's e and p cores only work with win 11, but total buggy. I agree with you, the 12600k is better, but there it costs nearly the same as the i7 12700. And as I said from the cost of an i7 ddr5 setup I would buy an 3090 instead.

Definitely wrong. I own a 12700K with Windows 10 and all cores work fine. No trouble at all.

The problem is the process adressing to e and p cores. It is very likely with alder lake cpu-s, a power hungry process adressed to an e core, which is not efficient. You can't realise it just sitting before the pc, the e cores can handle this, but loose performance. It means the i7 and i9 has more potent, but we can't reach it before win 11 mature. I have a macbook with apple m1 cpu, it is stunning. Amd and Intel in grave danger. I think this is why new arden lake cpu-s so powerful, they want to keep the pace, but windows can't compete with macos, which is optimized to their dedicated own hardware. This is why apple vr will be superior. But this is one possible future, the present is i7 12700k is the best

Could be like you say, I'm no IT specialist. But you are talking about two complete different systems here: apple is a closed system. It's like a playstation, you can't choose between hundreds of processors, graphic cards, mainboards and anything else from different vendors. You get what you pay for. Windows is open. Apple is Apple.

Anyway, like Juno (and I) said: for VaM 1.x you want single core performance. You will understand when changing to a processor with more single core performance. I don't know how much RAM (DDR4/5) and frequencies come into play, that would be interesting to know.

You can't compare it to playing in 4K, that's a total different story. In VaM you have to calculate a LOT of physics which is done by the processor. That's the problem.

In theory the 12400f should perform as i9-11900k in VAM. I think the ram mobo and cooling are the limiting factors. An i9 setup usually comes with high end config, while the 12400f buyer is on tight budget.

This time we won't see it, because today the webshop mailed me that they hadn't got the ordered 12400f. So I went with the 12700f, maybe tomorrow it will be there. It will be the slowest cpu speed 12700 config . I hope there won't be more problems with the shortages, because the war at our borders, and the covid and...

Oh I think that's a blessing in disguise right there! Much more future proof on an i7?

2TB Gigabyte Aorus NVME @ PCIe 4.0 x 4 (for games only)

CPU and GPU are watercooled with a MoRa 420 Radiator and 4 Noctua 200mm Fans.

It looks "ok", but Baseline 3 sucks. I have no Idea why my system is so slow compared to other. Is my 3200er Ram holding me back?

I know for a fact that the ryzen 5xxx really benefits from faster ram 3600 cl16 is often the recommended. would it be financially viable to do given the smaller uplift over 3200, I dont know...

looking at the perf figures your times look very good and total time looks spot on for the level of processor and your getting 15-20 fps over a 3080 which probably about right too so id say its pretty much par for course and not much to worry about.
