In this post I'll be advertising the paid version, but also explaining how to manually do everything you need without paying. If you are new to Virt-a-Mate, check the Tips & Tricks section below, it will also teach you how to accomplish important things in Virt-a-Mate in general.
TIPS & TRICKS
Tutorial
Before learning about these tips and tricks, make sure you've mastered the basics of how to show / position the vamX menu, how to start and speed up thrust, and more by going to Scene -> Help -> vamX MAIN TUTORIAL. This brief in-game tutorial will walk you through how to use vamX.
Saving & Loading
If you take the time to change looks, clothes, or edit the environment, save your scene as normal (Virt-a-Mate main menu -> red folder Save Scene button). You can then load your scene later for further use or editing, vamX works fine with saving/loading scenes.
Changing Looks
Just load any look in your library. If you are very new to Virt-a-Mate, and aren't familiar with using Virt-a-Mate looks, read the instructions below. If the following look creation instructions seem overwhelming, you might want to just grab the paid version of vamX (hundreds of easy switch looks, plus large buttons to switch and remove types of clothes and generally skip learning how to do things manually in Virt-a-Mate).
Many "looks" from the Virt-a-Mate Hub are actually shipped as scenes (not looks). To create a look (requires Virt-a-Mate Creator key) 1) Open the scene with the look you want to use. 2) In the Virt-a-Mate menu check the Edit Mode box. 3) Click the cycle select person button (thumbnail showing two people) to select the Person Atom with the look you want. 4) In the Person atom tabs, click the Appearance Presets tab. Enter a preset name, click Create New Preset, and position the camera for a nice thumbnail. 5) Then go back to the vamX scene, check Edit, then press Cycle Select person until you choose the Person named "Person" (if you select Person#2 you are editing the male). 6) Click the Appearance Presets tab, make sure Load Preset on Select is checked, then click Select Existing and choose the preset you created. It's not so bad once you get used it.
Penis / Vagina Alignment Issues
Alignment should work well for most poses, for most actions, for most looks, but due to the incredible variation that vamX is trying to account for (any pose, any action, any look) there will be alignment issues.
Make sure you go through the tutorial to learn to use vamX (Scene -> Help -> Tutorial 1 / 4).
To improve alignment:
1) Reload the current pose, by pressing the button for the same pose again. This will fix most issues.
2) If the penis doesn't reach, try loading a new male look, or changing the penis length in Action -> Penis Length slider.
3) Try a different male or female look, or change pose, or change action. Maybe another similar pose will work well. Especially in the seated poses, there are many variations of each kind of pose, try another one.
4) If alignment starts well, but is lost over time as they thrust, instead of pressing Start Thrust, try Just Thrust (or set a Manual Thrust). This disables arm movement changes, automatic pose changes, and automatic thrust changes, which can reduce issues that occur over time in any pose.
5) If your people are much larger or smaller than normal, vamX still tries to create good alignment, but if it doesn't work, and you want to keep the look but standardize the scale, go to Pose -> Fix Pose Scale.
6) If everything seems strange, reload the vamX scene, it's quick to load. This shouldn't be necessary, but just in case, give it a try.
7) If none of this works, or you love a specific pose and want it improved, send me a message through Patreon or the Virt-a-Mate hub. I'm happy to improve a pose and send an update. Please let me know what look you were using or any other info that may help.
Hiding the Male
If you prefer, vamX also works fine with the Male hidden. The female will still thrust, change pose, etc. without the male shown. Virt-a-Mate also runs faster with only one person shown, so if you are having issues with frame rate you can hide the male (or switch to the black/empty scene). You can hide the male by going to Scene -> Help -> vamX MAIN TUTORIAL. You can also show the male by progressing far enough through the tutorial till the male turns back on. You can also hide/show the male using Virt-a-Mate: In the Virt-a-Mate menu, check Edit Mode, then press the Cycle Select Person till Person#2 is selected (the male). In the Person#2's default Control & Physics 1 tab, uncheck the On checkbox to hide the Male (or check it to show the Male).
Orgasm
Female Orgasm happens naturally based on the amount of stimulation over time (sex, manually stimulating her nipples and pussy, etc.). To start an orgasm you can drag the Arousal to Orgasm slider all the way to the right at any time. For male orgasm / cumming effects, go to Action -> Orgasm -> Male Cum. In general in the Thrust & Pose version of vamX there aren't any male sounds/speech, but if you press Male Moan & Cum Twice you'll hear the male orgasm.
Changing Clothes
If she is wearing panties and you want to have sex, you can remove / expose all clothes (expose only works on some clothes). If you prefer to remove only her panties / pants, you either need to upgrade to the paid version of vamX, or manually change her clothes.
To manually change her clothes (requires Virt-a-Mate Creator key) 1) In the VaM Menu check the Edit Mode box 2) Click the Cycle Select person button (thumbnail showing two people) until you see that you've selected the Atom named Person (the female). If you select Person#2 you are editing the male. 3) In the Person atom tabs, click the Clothing tab. Check the box "Active Only" then remove whatever clothing you want by unchecking the boxes of individual clothing items. You can also save/load Clothing presets in the Clothing Presets tab, which works just like the Appearance Presets tab which is explained in the Changing Looks section.
Changing the Environment (Advanced)
To change the environment in vamX Thrust & Pose, start with the Black scene, then merge load an environment scene, or (manually create one if you know how). When you are done save your scene for easy loading later. If you want this done automatically, the paid version of vamX lets you open any Virt-a-Mate scene and merge load vamX into it automatically (and lets you place the vamX poses anywhere you want in the scene, including placing standing poses in one location, and lying poses in another location).
Adding an envrionment based on a single CustomUnityAsset
1) Download a few different scenes / assets, such as those here: https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/categories/assets.2/ for example the VanGogh room: https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/vangogh-bedroom.1300/
2) Open the vamX scene, then open the black / empty scene (3rd item in the Scene tab).
3) (Optional but useful) Disable collision in both the male and female by checking Edit Mode, then pressing Cycle Select person (Virt-a-Mate button with two people) and for each person, in the Control & Physics tab, uncheck the Collision box. This will make it easier to position the environment without having it hit the people during positioning.
4) In the Virt-a-Mate menu, check Edit Mode, then press the + button. In Category choose Misc, then in Atom choose CustomUnityAsset. Check the box Select Atom On Add, then press Add Atom.
5) In the CustomUnityAsset Atom's Asset tab (which should automatically open) press Select File... On the left side choose All Flattened, then choose an assetbundle from the list on the right (or in any case find an asset bundle you have, and select it).
6) Next to Select File it may say for a short time, Loading Please wait. Once it doesn't say that, use the Asset slider / drop down to select the asset. You should now see the asset on the screen.
7) Switch to the move tab, or otherwise use the object controller's move arrows/widget to move the environment in place. You can't move the pose, you must move the environment (because otherwise as soon as you loaded a different pose, the pose would load in an old location). Place the environment around the people so the people are standing or lying in the desired location.
8) Switch to a new pose or reload the same pose, this will enable Collision for both people.
9) Save your scene for easy loading later! Use the Virt-a-Mate main menu -> red folder Save Scene button.
Merge Loading an Environment (Advanced!)
1) Find an environment you want from the Virt-a-Mate hub.
2) Remove all female & male people by checking Edit Mode then using the Cycle Select person button (icon of two people) to select each person, and for each person go to the Control & Physics tab, then in the upper right corner click Remove.
3) When merge loading (which we will do later) the environment won't be in the right place in relation to the vamX poses. You need to move the environment into place around the pose (if you moved one pose you would lose the position as soon as you switched poses). In order to prepare your environment to be moved, use the Virt-a-Mate menu + button to create a new Misc -> Empty atom by selecting Empty, and pressing Add Atom. Then click the Virt-a-Mate menu arrow pointer button (Select) and for each item in the Atom list (or just those you know are actually visible in the scene) click the Atom -> control -> Control tab and set the Parent Atom to the Empty atom you created.
4) Open the Virt-a-Mate main menu -> Save Scene (red folder icon).
5) Open the vamX scene, then open the black / empty scene (3rd item in the Scene tab).
6) (Optional but useful) Disable collision in both the male and female by pressing Cycle Select person (Virt-a-Mate button with two people) and for each person, in the Control & Physics tab, uncheck the Collision box. This will make it easier to position the environment without having it hit the people during positioning.
7) Open the Virt-a-Mate main menu -> main UI (the upper left corner of the UI with three horizontal lines). Go to the File (Open/Save) tab, then press Merge Load Scene. Choose the scene you saved in step 4.

You can't move the pose, you must move the environment (because otherwise as soon as you loaded a different pose, the pose would load in an old location). Place the environment around the people so the people are standing or lying in the desired location. 9) Switch to a new pose or reload the same pose, this will enable Collision for both people.
10) Save your scene for easy loading later! Use the Virt-a-Mate main menu -> red folder Save Scene button.

Poses are sorted in various ways to make them easy to find (seated, standing, doggie, riding, foreplay, dancing, etc.).
You can manually choose a thrust movement for both male & female (female can wiggle side to side while male thrusts deeply) or set auto thrust movements.
During automatic thrust, thrust responds to two sliders. The Thrust Size slider, which controls how deep the thrusts are, and the Arousal to Orgasm slider.
Arousal to Orgasm increases automatically as you thrust. You can also set this using the slider. As Arousal increases thrust speed increases, and the types of thrust used match the arousal (at the beginning you may be teasing on the outside first, etc.). Higher Arousal to Orgasm is generally faster thrust.

Changing the Female Voice Pitch
The pitch is currently managed by vamX, but in future versions this will be improved to allow you to manually set voice pitch, to get different voice qualities, in vamX Thrust & Pose.
Until the next update, changing voice pitch is only possible in the paid version. In the paid version of vamX there are simple buttons to change pitch anytime, plus you can switch to other voices including those in other languages such as Japanese, Russian and French.

Poses are sorted in various ways to make them easy to find (seated, standing, doggie, riding, foreplay, dancing, etc.).
You can manually choose a thrust movement for both male & female (female can wiggle side to side while male thrusts deeply) or set auto thrust movements.
During automatic thrust, thrust responds to two sliders. The Thrust Size slider, which controls how deep the thrusts are, and the Arousal to Orgasm slider.
Arousal to Orgasm increases automatically as you thrust. You can also set this using the slider. As Arousal increases thrust speed increases, and the types of thrust used match the arousal (at the beginning you may be teasing on the outside first, etc.). Higher Arousal to Orgasm is generally faster thrust.

Changing the Female Voice Pitch
The pitch is currently managed by vamX, but in future versions this will be improved to allow you to manually set voice pitch, to get different voice qualities, in vamX Thrust & Pose.
Until the next update, changing voice pitch is only possible in the paid version. In the paid version of vamX there are simple buttons to change pitch anytime, plus you can switch to other voices including those in other languages such as Japanese, Russian and French.
