Vellus Hair has been rebuilt from the ground up: it looks like real hair, you can groom it, and it is lighter on your GPU.
Heads Up
Vellus Hair maps convert — Maps from version 1 are converted when they load, and a short report tells you what changed and which settings are new
New Features
Real hair lighting — A soft highlight, light passing through the strands, and a Melanin slider from clear blond fuzz to dark hair. It follows the lights in your scene and stays dark on the side the body shades
Grooming tools — Paint where the hair grows, how dense it is, how long, how far it leans and which way it lies, with Coverage, Density, Length, Lean and Comb
Generate Groom — The whole body in one press, laid the way fuzz grows on a person. Paint over it afterwards to taste
Variety — Every hair differs a little in stance, bend, length and width, so it stops looking combed by a machine
Better Painting & VR — The hair shows on the body while you paint, with Colors, Dark and Heatmap views. Paint To and Hardness paint an exact value with a soft or hard edge, and painting works in VR with both hands. VR was only tested on Oculus and not OpenVR/SteamVR
Performance
Visible hair only — Only the hair a camera can actually see is drawn now
Speed settings — If Vellus Hair is still heavy for you, two new settings under Advanced trade a little fuzz for speed: Thin Distant Hair Beyond and Skip Front-Facing Hair
Adjustments
Brush card — Clear, Fill and Invert moved into it and can be undone like any stroke, and it lists every key
Paint view — It sits exactly on the skin: no more bands over the eyes or skin showing through
What's New — Full Changelog opens every release's notes in one window
Bug fixes
Person reset — Resetting the Person (Reset, Reset Physical, Reset Appearance), or another plugin doing it, no longer wipes your Live Skin settings and maps. Thank you Betestav for the report
As always, tell me what breaks and what you would like to see next. Enjoy the update!
