[C&G-STUDIO] "Sugar Planet - REPACK"

Scenes [C&G-STUDIO] "Sugar Planet - REPACK"

"Sugar Planet" was recorded even way before "Breezy Planet" so don't expect the most precise and fancy MoCap you have ever seen. The MoCap technique does NOT display the quality of our todays MoCap work. However since this show is pretty much fun to watch we updated the original release with some minor tweaks and functionality.

It comes in the default and the camride version. Do not watch the camride version in VR if you suffer from motion sickness easily! The ride is heavy.

Hope you enjoy!

No, thank you! I can´t imagine a greater honour than beeing the reason someone put a great amount of money into his hands just because to enjoy our scenes! What a pleasure and inspiration! thank you!

I've given five stars simply because there is obviously a lot of effort put into this scene and it definitely shows, however not everything is perfect:
- I think having a scene split up between old file structure nad new var system is the worst you can do. At this point it would probably make more sense to jsut go with the old system, but at least have it all in one place. I also see no reason why this could not have been packed as a var completely. Remeber, if the packaging-function does not work, you can always manually edit and repack the var. I would not mind that problem normally, but for a creator with such professional ambitions (and creative skills) this delivery is not good enough!
- Another problem with the delivery is the dependency on assets, that have dependencies on their own. I think it should be a general rule that one tries to avoid to have dependencies that have dependencies of their own, especially if it is for such an interchangeable item like a single piece of clothing. In this case the dress alone adds gigabytes of data to the scene because of it dependencies (might be more a critique of the original creator of said dress but still).
Be deliberate when choosing your dependencies!!! The scene would not be any worse, if you'd picked one of vams standard clothing items for the dress...
- The scene itself plays nice, however i think the wind effect looks bad. At first i thought it was a glitch and tried to repair it, until i noticed the triggers fot the wind. Dramatically it fits the scene well, but it looks too unreal in my opinion. Also the dress seems not to be effected. Or effected less?
- On my mashine the dress did not slip off, but kept clinging on to the dancer a bit akwardly. Is this intended or has this to do with physics tick rate f.e. (it did not ran completely fluently on my pc)?
- I sppreciate the "unreal" concept of the scene, but i think it would have benefited from being "grounded" just a little bit: Maybe just a hint of stage floor under the fog that could catch a shadow or something. I feel that in computer graphics it often helps to have some grounding in reality even if you aim for a less realsitic look, otherwise it quickly looks unrealsitic instead of "unreal"...
- Oh.. and one small thing i noticed with all of your scenes so far: Technically they are a little bit too dark. Not much really, but it makes me wonder if you have maybe set up your display brightness a tiny bit too high!

Thanks for sharing,
Keep up the good work!

Hi there!
Gato here, uhm....somehow lead designer, coceptionalist, post procession operator and guy behind many of the ideas / processes of our little part time C&G-STUDIO. Damn I am so glad and happy you found time to write THIS review. I mean, I really am! I got goosebumps reading it not because there are some negative feedbacks / or the 5 stars rating. But because you took the time and effort to write this review! Man thank you. This means a lot to us and me in particular. THIS is how we can develop further and find obvious mistakes and so on. And this what C&G is all about. Grow together with the community and in the end somehow create pure magic!

So lets get to your actual review of course I would like to comment.

1.) Yes, we don´t need to talk any further. You are absolutely right. Sometimes our file management "sucks". I will keep my eyes open in the future for doubled dependencies and try my best to keep releases as cleen as possible!

2.) packaging everything we have done so far into the var format takes a huge amount of time. Time we can´t afford for the moment to be honest. we know about the struggle and the heavy Diskspace impact by doubling files etc. This is a dead end we cant handle right now. As far as we know our patreons also dont want us to play around with the older MoCaps but just focus onto the future. As far as we ( the staff ) discussed it we are going definitely to repack verything into the "final" format when VaM is hitting 2.0 so we can leave VaM 1.0 behind with no regrets.

3.) The wind effect was an experiemt and for our taste it went very well. actually tbh its pretty personal favour based. We haven´t recorded any negative feedbacks for the wind effect till now. Maybe a physics based problem? I dont know. Actually we liked the effect so much we would like to implement it in some particular releases in the future too.

4.) This scene lives from the surreal atmosphere created and giving the feeling to be "lost" on a ungrounded platform wich is supposed to create the feeling of a platform circeling around. Is it well done...hmmm. At least we´ve tried I guess :P Maybe you are right and there should have been some kind of "fix" point to orient to...But maybe not? Mybe its just because of no grounding a somehow lost in space feeling? I guess its again some sort of personal thing to like, or dislike.

Again I would like to thank you for this detailed feedback! You made my day mister!
