@hazmhox if we were able to merge this with the vr_render plugin, then we'd be able to render multiple camera angles simultaneously. That would be frickin' amazing. I primarily use VaM to create videos for the wife, and the ability to get multiple shots all in one render would be insane.

I don't know what vr_render is. And I don't get what you mean by "render". You mean compress a video in realtime?
 
Ho wait, ok. Well, not really the goal of that plugin :']

Technically I suspect that you could align multiple screens and use that plugins to render the final video tho.

Hmmm multiple instances of the plugin on different atoms with different output folder names... I bet that would work :) Thanks for the idea!
 
Hello, any chance we could get a feature that would allow further customization of the screen? I personally would love to adjust the "bulge" deformation of the screen, so that the screen would fit old CRT TVs and not just flat screens.

Or if anyone would know of a workaround for this plugin, please let me know.

That would mean a customizable vertex shader, not a bad idea, but it seems a big effort for a rare use :']
I could, on the other hand add "meshes" (instead of a simple plane) with a base shape. But this would make a bit harder to get a proper ratio. Would you like that?

As long as I'll be able to fit it into the TV I want I'll be happy for anything:D
 
btw. not sure if you're gonna do it, but if you would. Could you maybe add the mesh in a 4:3 ratio? Since most old TVs were made for that ratio I think that would solve what you were saying about nailing the ratio. I might have misunderstood it tho.

The plugin allows you to set your ratio, in the camera AND in the screen. Just put the same ratio in both.
I think you might have missed that, because technically, having an actual convex screen is not that important (it's highly unlikely anyone will notice that it's convex or not).

Edit: btw, most modern tube TVs were flat. My last one was indeed flat :p

As a frame of reference, the miss VAM contest I did. The TV assets have a simple flat 2D plane inside the mesh. It pretty much does not need a specific mesh :]

I do have the same aspect ratio in both. I just got confused and didn't get what you meant by what you wrote about the aspect ratio at first. for me it's not about the aspect ratio, but like I said, the fact the front glass is bulged and that it does not look good right now with the video being flat.

No matter how I make the meshes, someone is gonna have a "shape" issue.

For the ratio I was refering to, it was for the actual mesh. Let's say I'm making a "tube" mesh. As soon as you would size it properly, change a bit the ratio to fit your screen. The convex will have it's "ratio" changed. Let's say the "screen" is 40" by 30" and the bulge is like, 1 or 2", as soon as you're gonna size it, the bulge will either be bigger or smaller.

I could work on advanced vertex shader to compensate for that, but the plugin it not that popular (at least for the available content on the hub) for me to invest a bunch of hours in a detail as small as a 1" bulge :p

Gotcha, no worries. I ended up using a different TV asset.
 
I might dive on it at some point, but I got some major updates to finish that will push the quality of my current plugins far beyond that kind of detail. I'll poke you if anything comes up : )

I put a screen shot below. Do you know if its possible to hide that screen-in-screen view from the second camera? Something tells me it's not possible. 😅

You mean not rendering the window camera UI into VAMLive's feeds?
Umh yeah that feels problematic. I don't know what could be the side effects of changing the layers and ensuring VAMLive does not render it.

What is your use case, is that something that really "blocks" your workflow, or is a just a random fringe case for a one time situation?
 
How does this compare to the Spy Cam plugins - performance wise?

I don't know, I haven't tested any of the spycam plugins due to the fact they are very limited.

But I can say that VAMLive allows 3 cams with a proper setup and a minimal impact on performances. This obviously is only the case if you configure your screens properly (like not drawing 3 4K cams at the same time).

It depends your needs. There's a masking feature to reduce low res camera to compensate for the lack of pixel density which works very well in VR.
