So, I'm still fairly new to Virtamate. Slowly but surely, I'm figuring things out. One of the mysteries I'm still trying to figure out is why, when you put certain .var files in the addonpackages file, they still don't work. So, for example, Rebecca Chambers from PixelPorts or Jordan.1 from vecterror as well as most of BoyToys created looks. So, I will put them in the addonpackages file, launch the game, open the UI menu, and go to the Open Scene button, but the looks are not there. I have then gone to the Open Package Manager and they are in there. They are not missing any dependencies; they appear to have everything they need. But there is no "open scene" button like there is for most of the other files. I do not know how else to open these files. I have tried "unpacking" them but that just makes them inactive and there is nothing to click on to open them. What am I missing? Thanks!

Have you tried finding the look you want in the Hub, and then after making sure it's downloaded, click on the blue 'In library Open scene' button?

If that works and you want to quickly load it in the future, after the character loads, select it and then on the left menu pick 'Appearance Presets', give it a name and then save it. When you want that character back for a new scene, select 'Appearance Preset' again, click 'Select Existing' and pick it.

A .var can be a multitude of things. Getting one does not mean it's a scene you can access through "Load".

It can be an asset, it can be an appearance preset, it can be clothing... anything. You need to know the three main staples of character loading :
1 - Scene (which is old fashion and not done quite often anymore)
2 - Legacy look preset
3 - Appearance preset

2 and 3 needs you to create a new scene, have a character and load either of the methods.

I would say that unfortunately it is extremely common to see looks shared as a scene, often only as a scene, so much that many newcomers expect to see them in the Scene Browser like the OP asks.
Sharing as a scene may be shit to experienced users but to newcomers and others it's the easiest way to see them, even if it creates tons of problems to everyone. It's a perverted loop in VAM.
