Hi guys,

I'm wondering if timeline allows synchronisation for selected animations only.

I have animations called "anim 1", "anim 2", "anim 3" ect. for two of my person atoms They synchronise based on the same layer and anim name, it works fine.
Now I would like to animate the light, but only for "anim 2". In all other animations the light is fixed.
So I've added timeline to invisible light atom and I've created one animation, called "anim 2".

The problem is that whichever person aniomation I start, "anim 2" is started for the light. I mean: when I fire up "anim 1" for the person, "anim 2" is started for the light. I thinkif timeline doesn't find the animation with the same name for anotcher (synchronised) atom, if fires up the first avaialble animation.

I've tried to experiment with layer names and animation sets (SEQUENCE-ANIM SETS) , giving person and light animations different names ("anim 2", "light 2"), but entering the same set name ("set2"). But no succes, all the time there is no sync at all or every person animation fires up the single animation of the light.

The only work around I've found is to create empty animations "anim 1", "anim 3" ect for the light atom, so I will have "pure" synchronisation based on names. However, as the scene is planned for 20+ animations, I consider using 19 empty animations as a waste of time and resources.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is how Timeline works. If you sync atoms, it will start an animation no matter what.

So the work around is either:
  • Have same name animations empty
  • Manually start yourself the animation and disabling sync on that atom.
  • Have a "first" animation that will always be selected and is empty and ensuring it's locked into it (by disabling looping for instance).
