I hoarded a bunch of vars and I probably use like 10%.

So I want to reduce the VAM folder a bit to make it a bit more user friendly/faster. VAM is working without issues for me.

Is it enough if I simply clean up/sort out the folder or does a reinstall in a new folder make more sense?

Probably a new VAM folder is the better choice. Move in the VARs you want from the old one to the new and any locally made files like presets, etc.
There's also some plugins that can offload your VARs and load only what you need at the moment.
Regardless of what you decide to do, do make sure that you do backups of your VAM as shit can happen and online stuff does not stay online forever.

Yeah, the one post I have stumbled over a few days ago with missing presets for poses made me realize that I need to think about backup plus stability a bit more.

Do you happen to know the name for some of the plugins you mentioned by chance?

makes me wonder if there was a plugin that showed last time used in game for a var and allowed for a delete from it? Is that even possible, I don't know. One would have to pull the addon folder list it and add a stamp of sorts if it was accessed or "added" so to speak to a scene, person etc. would help see ones that are "dead" for the user. Hmmmmm.

yeah, I have decided that I will remove all vars from the addon package and now slowly sort back the VARs I've been using.

I am hardly using premade scenes and usually just dabble around and randomly pose stuff together and don't even save what I made.

So I now have the task ahead to sort through a few GB worth of VARs :)

I maintain two installations. One is essentially voxta-only with the minimum necessary vars. Think of it as the production install. The other is more sandbox with lots going on. Occasionally I'll feel like things are getting out of control and I'll do a fresh install. I have all my manually downloaded vars sorted into relevant directories, looks, clothing, etc, which just gets copied over into the fresh install along with custom and saves. This also makes backup easier. I also have a backup of a fresh install - all the included demo scenes + all the remaining dependencies. It's a good time saver when starting fresh.

I think this might interest you guys:

VaM AddonPackages Scanner & Cleanup Tool

I just uploaded a new update (version 3). It's best if you wait until it's released.

It's still a lot of work, but this way it's much less stressful. I've now deleted or moved a good 100 packages to an archive, and I still have exactly 4,321 var packages in my add-on folder🙃
