My oculus rift is getting a bit beat up and I'm considering getting something with higher resolution (finally have a pc that can push enough polys) that is compatible with VAM and steamvr. I would prefer inside out tracking. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm very happy with my G2. Anything you need to know about it?
I've never tried the Oculus Rift or used another headset with VAM, so I cannot make those comparisons.

Will it run in vam at full resolution? I read that the image is only goof quality directly in front do you notice this?

that is absolutely not true of course. You can find a lot of expert-bullshits "opinions" about reverb: I have still a perfect good rift-s and the poor glorious old cv1, but with reverb g2 there are not comparable alternatives headsets if you strictly care about graphic quality improvement. If you can find a reverb g2 (with controllers!) at honest price you will never regret if it is for playing intensive "creative" porn 3d.
ps: the extremely soft pressure, the high comfort level you get wearing on your face the reverb is also very important if you have experienced the terrible ruin after just 2 minutes with those oculus mouse traps.

Ok you have me convinced. So hard to find objective opinions on vr headsets. All the reviews i found are terrible.

I don't have experience with other headsets apart from the G2 - well, I had a Oculus Go, but that's a completelydifferent league - and I can go for hours with it on my head and be very comfortable (considering it's something stuck on your head). I don't wear glasses or use motorcycles, so having something on my head for hours is not a usual thing for me. Still, quite comfortable doing that, or maybe there's a reduced bloodflow to the head and that helps ;) :p

The fresnel lenses means that you may find a sweet spot and then it gets a little blurry. There's a lot of complaints on this, but it's not a tech issue, it's mainly a user issue from expectations or usage. If you want to look to the side and have a sharp image you need to move your head, not the eyes. The lenses in your eyes are moved with the eye, but of course the lenses of the headset are not attached to your eyes, so you need to move the head. Finding the right IPD and closeness to the lenses will improve this area of clarity. People's heads and eyes are different, you need to find how to best fit it to you for the best sharpness.

If you do get a G2, mind you that the batteries ask for 1.5 V, and the typical NiMH rechargeables are 1.2 V. Those will work, but they quickly run out of juice and are not so stable for accuracy. Buy a pack of AA 1.5 V lithium rechargeable batteries and your controllers will go for tens of hours per charge, it's like 15 € for a 4-pack.

Ok I understand. The blurring sounds like a natural side effect of larger fov. Thanks for the tip about the batteries i already ordered one.
