Is there a way to have a character line up with a real world toy?

Hi friends,

Sorry for the noob questions. I just learned about this software and before I dig in I want to see if it’s doable, or common, to do this thing I’ve been wondering about.

Can you line up a character (is a character called an atom?) with a real life toy? I’ve seen some people talking about using motion controllers attached to toys to move the characters in unison. But can I mount a toy, or a few toys, and make a scene where the character moves around the room and lines different parts of themselves up with the mounted toys?

It seems like that would be common. But I suppose I’m not sure what search terms to use.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not 100% sure what you want. For a character to move to a toy in the room or the character control an automotated stroker, or both options i think you mean ?

Either way yes that can be done. Not experimented with external trackers and moving characters to them so not too clued up in that area but there are tracker devices you could place on toys but I can't recall the name or plugin.

For the character to take control of a toy check out the OSR range of strokers you can build yourself:

And the plugin needed to control said toy: https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/toyserialcontroller.19853/

This is in theory doable. If it's just a static thing, you can save poses and the character will move to exactly that point in the scene every time. You could probably model your entire playspace in vr, but the main issue would be alignment. If you recenter your view in vr or use the controllers to move in any way, everything would be offset/rotated. You can disable navigation, but I've never tested it. You also could also make a calibration test for a fixed point in your playspace like a corner or a doorframe to make sure everything lines up each time.
