Oasis is a new free software designed to replace the discontinued Windows Mixed Reality. It is available on Steam and uses Steam VR (and only an Nvidia Graphic Card, which I have).

I only have a Reverb G2 and Virtamate (on my PC, not Steam) but so far have only used VAM in desktop mode. With Oasis it may now be possible for me to try out VR mode.

As my version of VAM is on my PC, will it be possible to use VAM in VR mode with SteamVR and Oasis? How?

You can start VR with non-Steam VaM even without the Oasis driver, I've been doing it for years. I imagine nothing will change with Oasis but I'm an AMD user so can't say for sure currently.

You can either run the "VaM (OpenVR).bat" or "VaM_Updater.exe" then "Launch VR". SteamVR should start automatically after that. If SteamVR's already running you can launch those files through its desktop mode too.

Alternatively, if you don't want to touch the desktop mode you can use "Add Non-Steam Game" ahead of time. Browse for the "VaM.exe" then "Add Selected Program". Find the "VaM" shortcut in your library and change its properties so that the "Launch Options" include "-vrmode OpenVR" and toggle "Include in VR Library". Now when you're in SteamVR "VaM" should appear in the "Non-Steam" tab of the library interface and launch the same as if you used the .bat file.

Thanks Clownmug. I'll report back when I get a chance to experiment.

We discussed this in the past and you wrote you are still using Windows 10. To use a HP Reverb G2 within Windows 11 24H2 you need the Oasis tool and Steam VR. I am using it and it works pretty awesome.....a bit issues with the controllers which has to be paired now seperately with onboard-USB or a USB-dongle ( >5.0) .

Yeah, AMD cards are not officially supported yet for Oasis so I'm staying with WIndows 10 for now. I was just letting Hipper know that even with older software it's possible to use SteamVR with a non-Steam version of VaM.

I am really happy I can stick with the HP Reverb G2. I tried some stand-alone VR Headsets....but they feel not comfi at all and also the quality I felt was disappointing. But indeed I have Nvidia. Thanx btw for your great work! :)
