I don't know if that would be easy to do. It might be simpler to just use a media player that has an "Always on top" option like VLC Player or MPC-HC, and keep it in the corner of the screen while VaM is running.
If you really need it to be synced though, I'd look for a plugin that plays video and also lets you control its scrubber/timer/seek with triggers. If one exists you could potentially link it to Timeline's scrubber by using another plugin like VariableTrace.
