VaM 1.x High Poly/Not Blocky Iris?

Any resources or methods out there for rounding out iris. More than often the iris on models are blocky and not a smooth circle. Any ways to change this?
 
Even upping the smooth passes doesn't seem to effect the iris geometry. You can fake it with Sclera textures though.
If the iris blends with part of the Sclera texture you get a slightly smoother/rounder look.
I used the default eye here (with Paledriver's reflections/shadows) and added a Sclera texture from ParticlePinnacles texture set to show the difference.
