Hey guys :)

I am new to VAM and got the issue that the GPU usage is way too much when using the app:

This is regardless which model or what graphics settings I choose. Running an RTX 3090 too, so that should be more than enough.

Any ideas how to fix this? Is there maybe a way to limit framerate? I could not find one in settings.

Thank you!

Windows TM doesn't really give you the whole picture on the GPU. I'd recommend using GPU-Z:

Tested it out with GPUZ - Same results. Judging from the settings window the cause is really the unlimited framerate. I just pumps out as much frame as it wants. Any way to limit it?

I found the solution - Just enable Desktop Vsync and then lower Quality until GPU usage drops 😅

I believe the nvidia control panel allows you to set max frame rate for each individual game as well as all of them at once. Also quite sure that works for both VR and desktop, as i asked ChatGPT pretty recently. And if using Oculus there is probably the option using debugger tool for ASW to be enabled and maintain FPS around 45 IIRC but thats probably a bit too low of a FPS limit for most unless your average VaM scene is already running around there anyways.

Keep in mind i have a 4090 and with everything loaded into a scene in VR even with no environment (but max all settings everything else other than MSAA off and physics rate auto), and while i dont remember the % my GPU usage was at in windows TM i know that it was pretty well peaked and even adding one light in most cases would bring down my FPS bc my GPU is fully utilized already.

I know for sure during video generation AI usage using Hunyuan Video (LTX video is super easy on my GPU never bringing it past like 40 degrees C) that my GPU will not only be working at around 99% according to TM, but it can get up to 60-73 C and stays there consistently until i stop video generation. I remember asking Chat about this as well and its completely normal for it to fully utilize the GPU, just be aware that it will possibly cause slight wear and tear and slightly reduce the longevity of your GPU to be constantly at full capabilities.

I can't remember for sure the % GPU usage in VaM VR but i know for a fact it is normal for it to be that high in other cases so.

I tried it out with the Nvidia Control panel and that didn't work for VAM. (Works for most other apps though) Did you get it to work?

About the GPU Utilization - VAM seems just very poorly optimized. I can run Unreal Engine with gigantic scenes or Eevee in Blender without hitting 100% GPU. I'm still glad the app exists, pretty awesome functionality :)
Btw, if you run a 4090 keep your power usage in mind. Just having VAM open sucks 250 Watt from my 3090 ><

Your old user preferences in Vam seem suited to max framerate at the expense of all kinds of quality. If setting quality to reasonably high levels gives you a great experience and reasonable framerate, that's the way to go. It looks like you raised your quality settings and found a sweet spot.
