Question Does have some way to use variables to store and retrieve values?

I'd like to be able to make a scene, where users can upload their own music. By manually inputting the BPM (or using a slider), they can start the scene and the dance will be synced with the music. I know that there exists a pluging which does that, but there is also other stuff which depends on the BPM (like lighting, etc). So I'd like to be able to have a BPM variable somewhere, and retrieve that info, or use that, to set other triggers/values. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
