I'm new to VAM and don't have any VR equipment yet, so I don't know if a VR headset would bypass any desktop mode limitations. I've noticed that you can continually move the camera left or right (unlimited yaw,) effectively spinning around as much as a real person would want to. I'm not sure how to roll the camera yet, but that axis of rotation would probably have the least practical use, as a real person's head can only tilt a few degrees to their left and right. Finally, I can look up and down only 180 degrees - limited pitch. These are pretty standard camera limitations for navigating 3D software, and I understand why you wouldn't want the camera by default to continue rolling forwards or backwards. It's just most convenient for keeping your bearings when editing in a 3D environment.

The problem here is that, as far as I can tell, the player cannot look upwards or downwards past the world's Y axis. They can only look straight up or straight down, and nothing further. This isn't as much of a concern when possessing a character that is standing up or sitting down, as most of the time we don't crane our necks forwards or backwards any farther than looking straight up and down. This does get to be a major issue as soon as the player's perspective shifts away from an upright pose. If a character is lying down on a bed, you can't look up very far. If you possess a character facing down in the missionary position, you can't even look down and see your own genitals anymore. Well, your character's junk. Yours is still probably there.

It seems to reason that if a character's body or head can be made to rotate past this 180 degree limit, then the limit shouldn't really exist during possession. This would be helpful not only for experiencing existing scenes but editing them as well. I've experimented with the embody plugin, but the maximum angle is still there. I know that there is such thing as the window camera, but that tool seems geared towards creating things like a camera ride or recording a video of a scene.

tldr; How do I enter the POV of a character facing down, and look down further, so I can see my junk again?

Try adding the embody plugin to the person, rather that the built in possession option. There are lots of customization options.

I had already been using the embody plugin, but your suggestion made me take a closer look at the documentation. By default the plugin simply improves the existing possession function. If you tick the "Select Passenger" option, the embodiment is locked to whatever angle the atom's head is looking at. At first I thought this was all the passenger option could do - follow existing head motions, and possibly make you sick if you use a headset. However, if I enter the passenger configuration screen, and select the "user driven rotation" option, passenger mode changes to do exactly what I was looking for. This configuration sets the camera position to that atom's head, and rotates the camera angle and the atom's head around according to mouse movement. You can also use passenger mode with only "lock camera position" selected, which keeps the same camera position but doesn't move the atom's head around when you rotate the camera.

I still don't know how to roll the camera (tilting your head left and right) but passenger's configurations include a "prevent camera roll" option if you are fine with how the atom's head is already tilted.

In summary, if you can't even see your own junk in a scene, do the following:
  1. Download the embody plugin from the hub if you haven't already: https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/embody.6513/
  2. Select the root/control of the atom you want to poses.
  3. Select the Plugins tab, press Add Plugin, and then Select File.
  4. Navigate to the plugin's var file, selecting "Embody.clist"
  5. Select Open Custom Ui...
  6. Check Select Passenger, then press Configure Passenger
  7. Select User-Driven Rotation if you want to have the atom move their head around with where you look, or just de-select Lock Camera Rotation to freely move the camera but keep the atom's head where it is.
  8. Check the Active box at the top of the plugin interface to start the embodiment.
  9. Press tab to toggle mouse look, and move the mouse down. Congratulations! You can now see your penis again, and if you don't already have a scene with a divining rod plugin, you can probably also see why most scenes include it!
  10. Press escape to end the embodiment as needed.

You can move the view a bit forward in the Z axis with passenger and embody so when you tilt down you can see your junk. You can also use the control head function. I haven't checked but think it may work if not better.
