Crashing more frequently

I see some threads around VAM crashing but haven't seen one that helps so here it goes.

There appears to be some sort of write issue over time when using VAM. I randomly get the generic 0x000005 Windows error more and more frequently over time. The faulting module seems to be random. Sometimes Unity, sometimes Mono.DLL, sometimes other DLLs. This started about a year and a half ago but has gotten much much worse - virtually unusable in VR.

Current Setup:
- Gigabyte Aorus Z790 Elite AX ddr4
- i9-13900k
- 64G mem
- NVidia 3070
- 2 NVME and 2 sata SSD drives with hundreds of G free on each
- Oculus 3
- Windows 11 Pro
- Using Virtual Desktop

I have tried the following with no joy:

- mounted encrypted drive 3rd party
- Bitlocker encrypted drive
- no encryption
- Windows 10/11 Home Windows 10/11 Pro - fresh installs
- turn all security off (except the bits you can't with defender - fk you MS... )
- Trend on and off
- New VAM install: latest version
- Clean installs of previous versions of VAM on all 4 drives
- all the usual Windows integrity checks
- gave full control to all users on the VAM folders to test

- XMP is off and no over clocking in anything
- all non MS services have been turned off or uninstalled
- all drivers are up-to-date as per a few 3rd party tools
- bios is up-to-date and default settings

Since this started everything has been swapped out or replaced with the exception of except the memory sticks and the video card.

Has anyone run into this? It seems to be related to Virtual Desktop as the VAM desktop appears to be stable. (Not extensively tested though). Could it be a memory issue?
I vaguely remember something having to do with Gigabyte software and settings in NVidia but there have maybe been too many "gummies" ingested or inhaled since then. ?

Not sure it is the video card as Assetto Corsa, AC Competizone, F1, and Elite Dangerous work perfectly in VR with the same settings.

I am years out of date. Is there something like Process Explorer or something else that might provide visibility into what is really going on when it fails?

I forgot about this, sorry! The issue, if anyone is looking was the I9 13900k. Fix: turn off Turbo mode, tune down the power for the chip or better yet, ditch Intel...

Issue: 0xc000005 access violation errors.

I had a few crashes 2 weeks ago when I upgraded my Nvidia drivers from 555.85 to 555.99. Apparently something went wrong with my drivers update, so I de-installed my Nvidia drivers and re-install. After the fresh re-install the crashes were gone.

I also do have frequently crashes in other apps and games awell. But since I use Intel Extreme Turning Utility app and put the performance core ratio from 57x to 54x, my system runs way stable with better performance. So far, no more crashes in games, apps aswell in Virt a Mate. I do own a I9 14900kf.

There are also problems with the E-cores, which can cause instability and crashes in apps and games.

I might try that setting! Power issues are such a pain in the ass! Easy to identify usually: if it's intermittent and doesn't really make sense then something is probably getting enough power to not completely fail but not getting enough power to work properly. Finding the reason and culprit is usually time consuming and a bitch...

Have a 13900K as well and have zero crashes, none. Undervolted by 100mV, MSI mainboard. In general no crashes at all.

Then you are on of the lucky ones. Intel announced a investigation back in April. The 13th and 14th generation does have major problems. Mainly with Unreal Engine, but also with other engine's and I can confirm this myself. The 13th and 14th generation can also cause other software to crash.

There are also issues with the E-cores and gaming.

Intel blames mainboard manufacturers and mainboard manufacturers blame Intel.

I'm still using Win10, I think this could be part of the problem, using Win11. Other than that I can't recommend MSI enough as a mainboard brand. Was always happy with their products. And I've read a lot of complains about Asus and especially Gigabyte.

Before undervolting I was running into thermal problems under 100% usage, this is now solved for me. But I'm using watercooling so, this won't do it for everyone.

Apparently someone out there decided to RTFM... ?... I just reset everything and set the voltage and current limits to the manual/this post and it seems to be good.
It is passing all stress tests with flying colors other than bumping the current limit. All games seem to be working fine.
It seems the gremlins running through the system causing random issues have been kicked out.

Here is the post:

Curious as to your experience.. I too just upgraded to a whole new PC.. but I don't have a I9 K processor.. I5 14400F.

But VAM mysteriously crashes. I monitor my CPU/GPU temps and it barely hits 70C... it used to but I have upped the manual FAN settings.
I have not had other things crash yet on a regular basis like VAM. Can run blender, CPU stress tests... etc. It does power throttle.

edit: The Hogwarts game would also crash my system in the same way.. but I got a new CPU fan and it mostly sits now in the 60C range.. before it would hit 90C

Do you get an application crash? My whole PC resets.
