Chiara Graphics Plug-in - PostProcess Graphics Plugin

View attachment 623527Inspired by MacGruber's PostMagic. Many thanks to MacGruber for the many excellent plugins he's shared with the community.

Post-processing plugin for VaM's main camera, built on Unity's official Post-processing Stack v2 (via BepInEx).

Features
  • Bloom, color grading, vignette, chromatic aberration, grain, lens distortion, antialiasing (FXAA/SMAA/TAA)
  • Depth of field with auto-focus (nearest person atom, or a manually chosen control point)...

Hello, may I ask what advantages or differences there are between your plugin and PostMagic?

This plugin works well for me, but unfortunately it cannot be used with [Post Another fix], which causes the game screen to flip 180 degrees. I think it might just be a minor issue, and you might be able to fix it.

Hi, thanks for asking! Compared to PostMagic, the main differences are:
  • Runs on Unity's official Post Processing Stack v2 — the newer engine (PostMagic is built on the older PPv1).
  • Its own independent UI window rather than VaM's standard plugin panel, so controls can be laid out more spaciously and stay readable at any UI scale.
  • Save your current look as a preset and apply it instantly to any other scene.
  • Full LUT compatibility, plus .cube file support on top.
  • Autofocus automatically tracks whichever person is closest to the center of the screen.
  • Motion blur also reacts to character body movement, not just camera movement.

Thanks for letting me know! That's the same category of issue as running two post-processing plugins on the main camera at once — they end up fighting over the same camera setup. The two aren't meant to be run together; disabling one while using the other should clear it up. Even if they happen to run without an obvious problem like this, they could still cause other unpredictable issues down the line.

Hey~!

Perhaps this is an incredibly silly question, so I apologize if it is, but when using your plugin - how does one actually proceed to take a picture with it?

Using built-in screenshot plugins, like MacGruber's SuperShot, don't capture the effects of your plugin and making screenshots with ReShade - without upscaling VaM via an external program - does capture the effects, it just is in comparatively low resolution as opposed to when one is using SuperShot.

Chiara applies its effects to VaM's main camera, so a Windows PrintScreen of the screen includes them. The colors may look slightly different from what you see on screen, though.SuperShot (and VaM's built-in screenshot tool) renders through a separate screenshot camera that Chiara doesn't touch, so those images don't contain Chiara's effects.

Would there be a way to make Chiara render through this secondary/separate camera, considering that plugins like SuperShot - or others that use this secondary camera, which there are a few of - make use of it, or is it impossible due to the implementation of it?

Let me ask you a question in return: why don't you use the Print Screen key to take screenshots?

I have a couple, which perhaps aren't necessarily good reasons or I've just not found a decent way to deal with them. But they are reasons, I suppose, and there are probably more which I can't think of. It's quite late where I'm at.

1. SuperShot upscales the picture, meaning I can take a picture at 6K or 8K resolution instead of my screen's native resolution, which results in much smoother end results with less visible pixels. (This would otherwise need to be done with 3rd party programs, which I've tried, and found quite inconvenient/not working (which might just be a 'skill issue'))
2. Changing aspect ratio doesn't need to be done in post and several aspect ratios can be tried out while one is taking a shot.
3. Despite MSAA being more resource intense, as far as I know/have heard, I prefer the visuals of it. So this is something completely subjective, of course.

Chiara currently applies its effects only to the main camera. To support SuperShot, they would have to be applied to the screenshot camera as well, and autofocus and other effects would need rework for that camera. I don't think the demand justifies that effort.

More than fair~!

I appreciate your replies and you taking the time, as well as the effort in making this plugin, because it is incredibly handy. I'll find a way to make things work, I reckon. wwww

I might give it a try if the opportunity arises, but I can't make any promises. Please don't get your hopes up.

Hello. I only use the AO function in the plugin; it works wonderfully and has a minimal impact on FPS. Could you please tell me if it is possible to edit the plugin files so that it doesn't automatically disable PostMagic and instead loads with a default setting of just AO using my specific parameters? In VAM, practically all scenes use PostMagic, and finding and re-enabling it can be a hassle and a waste of time. Perhaps you could even release an update adding an option to toggle the automatic PostMagic disabling, as well as a way to configure the default startup parameters?

When PostProcess runs multiple instances simultaneously, or when PostMagic is repeatedly turned on and off, there is a high likelihood that a bug causing the VAM UI to crash will occur.
To prevent this bug from occurring, Chiara Graphics terminates the PostMagic process.
That is why I have set up an automatic import of PostMagic parameters into Chiara Graphics.
Your request is effectively asking me to implement a feature that would cause this bug to recur.

Not exactly; what I meant was to make those settings optional—to have the ability to use them if desired, provided it's possible. Or is it possible to somehow edit the plugin files themselves to set the launch parameters I need?

Chiara is designed to replace PostMagic as the post-processing on the main camera, not to run alongside it.
Using only its AO while keeping PostMagic active is outside what it is built for, so I won't be adding an option for that.
Chiara is released under CC BY-SA. You are free to modify it yourself, as long as you give properly linked credit to the original.

Out of curiosity, are you a new user, or is this a secondary account?
