I made a character in Maya, If I import it into unity can it become a new character for this.

VAM can import it as CustomUnityAsset (CUA) - but that's not like a Person Atom in VAM that you can dress and play around with.
It's more like part of the scene / environment then. Just a boring scene object.
I guess that's not what you want.

You would have to start by getting the 'shape' of your character into VAM with a morph.

All morphs in VAM rely on the DAZ Genesis 2 mesh being used.
So you'd have to import your model into DAZ Studio somehow.
Match your models pose to the Genesis 2 T-pose and then fit the G2 mesh to your model.
You'd lose detail due to the fitting not being 100% precise obviously.
Then create of morph of that G2 model export -> open VAM and apply it to the default model.

Part of this guide should help:
https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/import-genesis-8-character-to-vam-with-pictures.6260/

Note: before step 19 make sure the new morph slider is at 100%
I did successfully ports with it from DAZ to VAM, but it's easy to F this up.

Have not ported textures yet. There are guide for that too.

You can use r3ds wrap to wrap your maya model with the base res g2f mesh to get a morph into daz via morph loader pro. Not done it myself so I cant be much help with the process but that's the way the porters do it.
