YouTube Video Tutorial: How to Build a Concert-Level Stage Lighting Array in VAM in 20 Minutes

By spending just 20 minutes or so following these steps, you’ll fully grasp how to build your own concert-level lighting array — whether it’s creating an energetic club atmosphere or crafting a more intimate lap dance scene with fewer lights and a focused mood.

Introduction

🎬 Preview of the Final Stage

Here’s what we’ll be building today — a fully dynamic, concert-level stage lighting array inside Virt-A-Mate (VAM).
You’ll see synchronized moving heads, LED strips, laser beams, and atmosphere lights all working in perfect rhythm with the music — just like in a real live performance.

This setup can be easily customized and reused for any scene, from small club performances to massive arena shows. Once you understand how it works, the entire process takes about 20 minutes, and requires no advanced skills or prior experience in VAM scene creation, and no coding experience.

Requirements

Before we start, you’ll need a few essential plugins to follow along:

In addition, while it’s not mandatory in your own creations, using Light Creator will greatly speed up your workflow. In this video, we’ll rely on it to quickly load and arrange the entire lighting setup — especially for more complex fixtures such as laser units and prism moving heads.

Finally, although optional, I strongly suggest reading the guide Professional Stage Lighting for VAM: From Simple Single Moving Heads to Concert-Level Lighting Array before watching this tutorial.
It will give you a solid understanding of what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and help you follow each step with confidence.

▶️ Video Tutorial

In this tutorial, I’ll guide you step-by-step through how to build this complete lighting array from scratch.
We’ll cover everything from loading presets and arranging fixtures, to syncing them with BPM and customizing their effects — so you can transform any stage into a full concert experience.

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll have a fully automated, programmable stage setup — complete with synchronized lights, lasers, and dynamic effects.
More importantly, you’ll understand how each component works together, giving you the freedom to customize, expand, and fine-tune your own lighting designs for future scenes.

This is just the foundation — once you’ve mastered these techniques, you can take your stage production in any creative direction you want.
