Skydome Part 10- Evening - (4K/8K)
The main difference between Skydome and Skybox is that Skydome is a hemisphere that covers the scene from above. Since Unity (with CrunchCompression disabled) allocates a fixed amount of MB per texture depending on its resolution, by cutting a full sphere and its texture in half we get exactly half of total size with the same quality - Main advantage of Skydome.
In addition to this, a highly optimized single-pass shader was created, meaning even less impact on performance compare to original Unity Skybox. Since SkyboxColor plugin from DemonLord will not work with it, a similar one was designed specifically for these Skydomes and embedded it in every .VAR.
Each set is released in two resolutions - 4K (20MB) and 8K (80MB), allowing you to choose the desired quality - the first is great as a placeholder for a window view or similar cases where the sky plays a very minor role in the scene, but you are not satisfied with standard black void. 8K is suitable for outdoor scenes or VR, where quality becomes more important.
