This is a quick guide on how to save your look or scene as a VAR . One of my supporters is having trouble so i thought i would make this to help them . It is quick and dirty but i hope it helps them and others .
Ok , first thing is to complete your scene / look and the click the tab on the Ui bar at the bottom left ( no1 ) in the picture to open the full UI menu.
Then click the user prefrences ( no 2 ) on below pic and select the sub tab ( no 3 ) below called "misc " .
You should get the same menu as in the pic below where you can enter your creator name which will appear on all your
saved work / vars so enter that here ( no 4 ) pic below . You only need to do this step ONCE , after that all your files saved will alreadyhave your entered creator name on them .
Next , click on the File open /save tab ( no1 ) on the UI bottom left and then select " save scene and add to new package " (no 2)
(quick note this if for NEW saves , there is a option below " save scene and add to current package but this is used for saving edits to exsisting VARS you have already saved and that use the same name ).
You should now get the menu below where you simply enter the name you want the VAR to be saved as (no1 ) and then then simply click save on the bottom right of the menu ( no2) . You will then be able to take a pic /screenshot for the VAR which is used in the VAM main menu of scenes and looks you have in your library.
You will then get the menu below , first check (no1 in the below pic) and make sure your creator name is there which you entered in the 1st step of this guide , mine is as you all know " Anonymous_Chunk " and thencheck the file name you just gave your VAR (no1) is there . It should be if you did step 1 / picture 2 in this guide . Now you shouldnt see much populated in this menu apart from the name at the top and a few files in the content section below the name . Thats because you need to now click on the Prep Package button on the bottom left of the menu which is ( no2 ) in pic below .
Now sections no1 and 2 in the pic below should populate . The sections are called References and Reference License Report but it will call them 1 and 2 so its easier lol .
no1 should list references to the content you have used in your work , hairstyles , clothes etc and no2 is basicly the same list but this one shows what licenses the content you have used are under . Please see the HUB for more help about licenses and what you can or cannot use etc as its long and hard to go into here.
Anyway in section no1 below in pic , notice there is red text saying " FIXABLE , references local file not icluded in package " thats because they havent been added to YOUR VAR /package yet . To do this you need to click on Fix Reerfence issues no 3 in below pic .
Now the contents list no 1 in below pic should populate and the references section no2 below in pic should have no ref issues and no red text .
This package should now be ready to save . Before that though , notice the boxes on the right of the contents list called description , credits and instructions . Here you can enter details of how to use your scene etc , give credits to the creators for their work where used and a description of your work and even add a promotional link like patreon etc whcih will all be saved in the VAR file .
I also want to draw your attent to the licence area below the promo link box ( between 1 and 2 in pic below .)
its says license and next to it CC-BY . This is a drop down menu so if you click on CC-BY you get a list of license in which you can select the license of YOUR FILE you saving . Again , look into what you can use etc and what to license YOUR work as yourself but you change your license there .
Anway , back too it lol . Fill in the descrption , credits and instructions boxes according to your content etc , choose the license required and then click " Finalize Package " button on the bottom right ( no3 )
You should then get the pic below of your VAR being saved ....wait and let it finish . You will know when its done as this text will disappear .
When complete you can simply close this box /menu by selecting any other tab in the UI or the "x" to the top right of the menu , next to clear all button .
Now Your work with your completed VAR file should be saved in your folder "AddonPackages " in the main VAM directory . Its easier to locate for me if i open the folder in file explorer and sort by "date" . if i just saved the work that is lol . You should now have 2 FILES saved which start with your creator name you gave yourself folowed by the actual name you gave your WORK . example Anonchunk_rose the hat .
Both files will have this name but 1 is your VAR file and the other is a TEXT file with a list of the depedencies used in your work .
If you want to share your work on the hub you will have to upload the VAR file , i believe you can also add the Text file too but i dont as the depends are created on the hub now so get listed with you work anyway .
I hope this quick quide helps and if anyone has any questions , please feel free to ask .
