Thankies to everyone
Mishizuka-sama
When the woods grow still and the wind holds its breath,
When the whisper calls your name,
Keep your eyes forward, keep your feet moving,
For Mishizuka-sama is near,
She walks behind you.
The Legend of Mishizuka-sama
Mishizuka-sama’s name is said to have sprung from the quiet words of villagers long ago. “Mishi”, a lost word meaning “hidden” or “unseen,” and “zuka”, a mound, hill, or elevation. Together, her name whispers of something hidden in the heights, watching, waiting. The tale began as a cautionary story told to young men and women: a giant lady who would appear in the woods if you lingered too long after dusk.Mishizuka-sama appears in quiet places, especially forests, fields, and narrow paths near water.
She does not speak in words but through soft whispers, drifting through the leaves.
The whispers often call your name or sound like someone familiar asking for help.
“If you hear someone whisper to you in the woods, do not answer.
Do not look back.
Never look up behind you.”
Those who ignore this rule vanish.
Those who follow it may still feel her nearby tall, silent, watching.
Witnesses who obey this rule sometimes report a strange stillness that follows the air thickens, the insects fall silent, and even the wind seems to hold its breath. A feeling of being watched creeps in, as though something impossibly tall stands just beyond sight. To look back is to give her attention; to move forward without reacting is to deny her entry into one’s mind. Yet few can say for certain what happens to those who disappear, and fewer still have the courage to test the legend.
The behavior of Mishizuka-sama remains a matter of speculation. Some accounts describe her as a guardian spirit, once benevolent, who grew distant after her worship faded. Others portray her as a manifestation of the forest itself, a consciousness that feeds on fear and attention. A third interpretation found in more recent retellings suggests that Mishizuka-sama was born from the stories themselves, her existence strengthened each time her name is spoken in warning. This theory holds that she is neither living nor dead, but a reflection of collective imagination: a myth that has learned to listen back.
Those few who claim to have survived encounters with Mishizuka-sama describe their experiences as dreamlike. Time becomes uncertain; the forest seems to fold inward, and memories blur as if erased by a gentle hand. When they awaken sometimes hours, sometimes days later they recall little beyond a feeling of stillness and a lingering whisper that fades with the dawn. Some never enter the woods again. Others speak of hearing her voice in the wind, long after they have left the valley.
There are regional variations to the myth. In one, she is called The White Lady of the Pines, protector of old graves and wanderer of moonlit paths. Another version, known along the coastal regions, tells of The Whisper in the Hollow, a voice that tempts travelers deeper into fog until they vanish entirely. Despite these differences, the core warning remains identical: when the forest grows quiet and a whisper calls your name, keep your eyes forward and your steps steady.
Whether spirit, memory, or shadow, Mishizuka-sama endures because she represents a timeless fear the feeling that something vast and ancient lingers just beyond perception. Her myth survives in murmured stories and unspoken rules, in offerings left at the base of trees, and in the silence that follows every rustle of wind at night. The villagers say that when the woods go still and the air feels heavy, she walks again.
Mishizuka was created for the next story for my Miko series that i'm currently trying to work on. I honestly don't know if she will be a one off or if I'll do something else with her.
She's set to the default height here and can scale her to 1.8 for her tall height ... or whatever you wish.
