This is not an official guide but my personal suggestion.
If I also want to have all the clothing, hair, décor, furniture and rooms that I need, the list gets longer.
There is an easy and quick way to perform a clean install and have all that. It's just three steps:

You may need to repeat this third step after the game downloads the initial batch of dependencies and finds their additional dependencies.
Let VaM do its thing, go watch a show. It's going to download something like 150-200 var packages. That will include all the ones on my essentials list, and also many clothing items, hair, décor, furniture, and rooms. These are all good-looking assets, and great plugins, and they are all free. A lot of the scenes that you download are going to have many of these in their dependencies.
Now you have all you need to build your scenes, all you need to run most free scenes that you find on the hub. All for free.
Even after you add all that you need, a clean install runs faster than a bloated install. And you can make it run even faster if you use FastPhysics settings when possible.
Enjoy!
- A clean install of VaM runs faster.
- If you only download the packages that you need, you keep the game small and fast.
- You need plugins and assets to make a good scene, or run a scene that was made with them. Even the list of essentials is long.

There is an easy and quick way to perform a clean install and have all that. It's just three steps:
- Install VaM, enter your key, start it.
- Download these three packages:
- In the menu, go to File/ Open Package Manager / Scan Hub For Missing Packages / Missing Referenced Packages / Download All.

If you'd like to download a single scene pack that showcases many things that VaM offers, you might wanna try Babysitter Scene Pack. It has one example for each popular type of scene
Photogrammetry based environments that also support dynamic lighting, such as the ones found in epiRoom strike a good balance between the two approaches. The baked lighting works as an ambiance lighting pass that the dynamic lights will go on top of. The shadow from the lights add up to the “baked in shadows” that are like infinite bounces generated on a quantum computer (because real life).
Alternatively, the cell environment in epiTemplateChain still offers the best performance.
It's a good idea to allow the user to turn off the room (except for the furniture/props that the action needs) with a single click. All these examples offer such an option.
